ok, so a bit of an update with some pics to come very soon!!!!!

i have stripped and re-sprayed the brand new J16, installed a fair few new components, basically only re-using the starter motor and alternator.
installed the motor in the engine bay along with the new high volume custom sump
installed a brand new aluminium radiator
re-ran all of the brake lines and both rear brake cylinders
re-ran the clutch line and replaced the master cylinder.
new fuel lines and electronic fuel pump
re-wired the entire car with a kit from EZ-WIRING, which i adapted to my car
hidden the majority of the wiring in the process
fixed all of the lights etc that werent working
installed new horns
installed new electronic retractable aerial
new battery
installed a new 2" exhaust system from the exhaust manifold back. (will be making up headers soon)

still to do:
replace all 4 front brake cylinders
do a bit of suspension work
replace all rubbers
replace/re-install carpet
install more stereo!
make up headers, an intake manifold, brackets etc and install the AMR500 supercharger.

ive been able to finally work on my car and put some decent hours in. im sure i have forgotten a bit of what i have done, but thats it for now!

ok.. its pic time!!!

just a photo of my brand spanker J16, just unwrapped out of the plastic and took the head off
[ img ]

i removed all of the original paint, cleaned it up and this is her in primer
[ img ]

this is the motors new colour... its late at night so you dont get a great picture but u get the idea...
[ img ]

i removed the sh@tty paint from pretty much everything that i could get to, and re-sprayed it.
[ img ]

i removed the original sump to fit my modified sump.. all soo shiney!!!
[ img ]

this is my modified sump all painted up and ready to go on
[ img ]

just another pic of my painted fresh 1600
[ img ]

finally gave her a wash after about a year!!!
[ img ]

scrubs up alright i reckon!
[ img ]

this is my aluminium radiator that i had to modify a wee bit.. it came up great tho.
[ img ]

engine and everything in! fired up second time... fuel float wasnt set properly the first...
[ img ]

a wee bit of clearance! its hard to tell from the photo but there is actually a fair bit. definitely enough for some wider belt pulleys for my AMR 500 supercharger that will be going in eventually!!
[ img ]

let me know what you think!!!

cheers shane

Excellent effort and awesome retro choices! You should reconsider the supercharger to an sc14 or sc12
The AMR500 will be way too small for you as it will spin way too high to keep up to that capacity unless
you are only after 3psi etc.

hmm.. i was just thinking the other day about it. i know i did calculations, but i now cant remember if it was for the J13 or J16.

an SC14 would be way too big. i'll have to find the calculations again, and re-do them. im pretty sure i did it for the J16 tho, and the 500 was the go. i'll double check

i just did some calculations for the J16...

basically, an AMR500 at 2:1 ratio will only put out 3.7psi @ 13,000RPM. i could change the pulley size, but at 5psi it is at 14000rpm and getting towrard its max of 16,000

a SC12 at a 1:1 ratio, i'll get 7.35psi@ 6500rpm.

and a SC14 at a 1:1 ratio i'd get 9psi@ 6500rpm.

i have never installed a supercharger before, and never done these calcs. but... i did one more...

just to see what i'd get if i changed the ratio and RPM.
SC12 1:1.5 ratio, see what id get at 5000RPM... 10.7PSI.
SC14 1:1.5 ratio, see what id get at 5000RPM... 15PSI

i think that for my stock J16, that the SC14 will be too big. but an SC12 may be the go!

anyone know what J16's rev to?

any comments are much appreciated as there may be factors which i am missing!!

thanks guys n gals
shane

the sc14 is easier to source atm the sc12 is a little rarer and the bonus is you are right on
for 9.5psi is the best boost with stock pulley will avoid detonation issues.
If you can get the sc12 go for it but changing ratios adds to costs of custom pulleys if you
cant match them to others from the junkyard.

ok thanks mate,

like ive said before, ive never supercharged a motor before, or really had much to do with them at all!!

what sort of carb/carbs do you think i should be running? single or double? is 9.5PSI too much for a stock J16?

i will be making up new extractors and intake to suit

thanks heaps

shane

I HAVE MY DATTO ON THE ROAD!!!! i have finally been able to register the old girl a couple of days back after having it for about 2 years!! she passed all checks and tests with flying colours!! even had a few people from the vehicle inspection place come out and take photos!! hahaha

I have completely reconditioned the front brakes and components (re-sleeved brake cylinders, new hoses, new hardlines, new shoes, cleaned up the drum etc), but its still pretty average to stop. i have ordered a VH44 remote brake booster, not sure whether to put it just on the fronts, or all 4?? can anyone help?

i will have to get all new rubber seals for my doors, glass etc... i gave it a wash, and it has soo many leaks!! anyone know where i could source some from??

my odometer is buggered, the gear that drives the odometer from the speed cable mecahnism has rounded off, so i am going to be replacing pretty much the entire dash. new gauges including a tacho.

everything else is running pretty sweet. over the next few months, i'll be looking at mounting up a supercharger, but in no hurry to do so! just enjoying driving the old girl and turning heads!
