Just wondering on people's opinions. Is it acceptable to mount a thermo fan by bolting through the fins in a dual core aluminium radiator?
Reason I ask, the top and bottom plates aren't big enough to mount the fan using tabs, and I can't think of any other way I can make it work but i'm worried about the vibration of the fan hitting the tubes and causing some issues. I don't think I can adapt a shroud. Only other thing I can do is get my mate to add some tabs with the TIG.
What do others think?

Make a shroud up and mount the fan 20-30mm away from the core. I'll take a pic tomorrow and post it up. Cheers Jay

I don't have 20-30mm to play with. I get what you mean, unfortunately I think that will make it foul on the harmonic balance of the SR.
I can only attach it at 3 places also. Sort of stung for idea's on this one.

it'll be ok using either the long bolts with the washers and nylok nuts, or the cable tie things that do the same :)

you need to be gentle with the tightening and be sure to use big washers on the opposite side to the fan to help spread the compression over a larger area so you dont hurt any of the tubes. its better to use fibre washers underneath the steel washers but its not critical that you do

you only need to go tight enough so the fan doesnt move remember, its not like other stuff where a certain torque is needed to keep it tight. those nylok nuts will hold fine, so will the cable tie things if you wanted to use them instead

you know you can buy those zip-tie style things with a round disc on each side, you basically pull it through a gap in the fins on say 4 mounting points and clamp it to the radiator.

Mount the spal fan on the core. they work best this way.
You only need 2 lugs to mount these beauties as they have very tough frames.
check how we do it.

I use the Davies Craig zip-ties. They come with a self adhesive foam tab/washer that keeps tension on the fan and protect the core from damage. For best results put these foam bits on both sides of the core i.e. use two packets.
I'd stay away from cheap chinese zip-ties though as i have found they fail with heat...

Cheers guy's.
I'll look into it. At first I was going to bolt it on, but saw the Datsport Rad and how you bolt that on baz with the extra strip and the lug on the side and didn't have that provision to mount it - so would need to have my mate do some welding for me. After reading on the ever reliable google :? I thought it best to ask how others do it, As i didn't want to rupture the core with the bolts. I might try the zip ties first, then if they fail, i'll bolt it through.

I'm not a big fan of those copper bulb sender unit things, So I put a 92 - 87 degree switch into the top radiator tank. I haven't actually tried it out yet, but hopefully it will work ok.
