Guys,
Im not sure on the legality of CF bonnets on the road and it is because of the way it shears like a razor.
Fibreglass on its own is ok to the best of my knowledge but you have to check state rules. You might get away with a CF bonnet if its painted. Just be aware of a few things in regards CF and FG parts.

There is no way a true quality CF bonnet will be $400 as the materials alone would be that.
Unfortunately most of the stuff passed off as CF is polyester based with chopped strand mat backing.
It looks quite good but technically does not bond properly and doesnt handle heat or water very well either plus has increased shrinkage over time(ripples) plus needs to have heavier FG backing because it doesnt bind so well.
It is however cheap to fabricate and easy to work with and is great for dash facias or trim parts.

True CF is epoxy based and in the case of bonnet and guards will be CF with an Aramid( Kevlar or similar) plus a woven fibreglass backing.
This will be extremely light and combines CF (stiffness) + Kevlar (flexibility plus binder) + FG (strength)
Using these will make it approx same thickness of steel ( yay! it fits properly) but much less weight and being epoxy
will handle much higher temperatures and is very water resistant.
The down side is that this process is approx 3 x more expensive than polyester in std materials and even more with higher grade prepreg materials. Epoxy is not uv resistant which is ok if you want to paint it anyway but not if you want a clear finish. There is vinylester clear gel coat that is compatible with epoxy but the smell is volatile and you will not be able to use it at home.
Epoxy is harder to work with and is very temperature sensitive and is best used with Vacuum bagging for car parts. Not exactly back yard stuff.

My apologies for the rant but its best to know what you want form the parts before you ship them rather than be dissapointed down the track. :)

Yeah "true" CF is way different to "appearance" CF. Check out LSM in Toowoomba and see why it costs so much.

Hopefully, the reproduction sheet metal industry in China / Taiwan will one day make repo bonnets and guards etc. then they can just bought and wrapped. Bumpers would be nice too. It just needs a few businesses in the datsun parts game around the world to get together PLUS the owners to show that the demand is there, for it to happen.
