nice work mate
good job on the qtr repair
how did you find fitting the nisco panel? much work to get it to line up?
cheers
Cheers mate, One of the replacement panels had a slight warp in it and it was a pain in the arse to fit. If you have access to a panel flanger u can make a lip on the panel and you can tuck it up under the original qtr and make it easier to weld in. I sat the panel up against the original qtr and tack welded it (taking my time so it didnt warp), then full welded it

There is a skim of bog over the panel and i will be the first to admit that it isnt metal finished
If you havent done much body repair work before maybe experiment on an old panel before making more work on your actual car :giggle:

Have had a bit of free time so i have been doing a bit more on the rust bucket

Before (oh god)

after (better)

Welding in 2 sections of metal then skimmed over the top to get the shape spot on

All repaired and etch primed (roof next)

getting there slowly, rust repairs have been quite time consuming

The inner was ok but i still treated what i could to stop any potential issues in the future. Started paint stripping the roof today and it was surprisingly ok haha

Roof is generally ok on the outside. The inside along the top of the doors will probably have surface rust however. Hit that with a wire wheel if possible, then load up your spray gun with POR15 or equivalent or Fish oil and thin it out a little. Then smash that inside.

The doors are next on the list to get a coat of etch primer, but I am back at uni on the 27th of Feb and the 1600 is more than likely going to sit under an old sheet until holiday time again in june

most of the rust is done now though

LOL but at least it would get done properly and actually get done, instead of me chucking the shits and calling up Sim's Metal

Im not a tradesman so the welds were a bit dodge and it will need a skim of bog but its better than bogging over the rust holes that were there to start with haha

Good job mate. I bought myself a gas less mig and it does the job well. Just need to play with feed and amps constantly though. But like you said, better than bogging over the rust.

Keep up the good work.

Hey guys,

You should look into getting the gas bottle. They are about 140 to rent for the year and about 60~70 to fill. not really a big outlay. It helps a lot. Not implying there is anything wrong with the welds, just makes it easier.

Cheers,

Trent
