Been a while since an update... been super flat out
but have made some progress on a few things,
Mounted my fia kill switch,
Fitted my air flaps to the inside of the car, Made a blanking plate for the heater box entry. And covered behind the dash with our insulation.
Fabricated the dump pipe of all dump pipe's
of course as you know nothings simple on this car, Baz convinced me to give an old proven theory a shot. This theory is based on the exhaust flow from the rear housing. According to a well published book (which has many proven facts from drag cars through to f1's) is that the spiraling air from the rear exhaust wheel will keep air speed up as it enters the dump pipe, Which can work against the rear exhaust wheel in rapid rpm changes. So to cut the story short, if theory proves us right I should get some better response out if the hair dryer. Anyway we sat down and done a mock up to see if we could get it to work and came up with this. A tapered (from the inside of the flange) 2.75in to 4in cone into a 4in mandrel bend and back to 3in again... after around 6 hours this is where I got.
I firstly needed the flange, which I was happy to make. But after seeing a couple of mates they decided to short cut me by drawing up the flange from the gasket (within 3mins
) and then chucking a piece of 10mm stainless in there CNC Mill
not the normal practice, usually laser cutting is adequate but they know how impatient I get.
After some die-grinding, cutting and swearing we had it tacked.
And now the welded product with the test fit.
