just found myself a one owner '76 180b wagon that i will be building into a nice cruiser.
plans are; serious stance, brakes, L26 with flat slides, 5 speed and something a little different for the paint.
once it arrives, I will endeavour to get some photos posted.

Big ambitions fitting L26 in there, but if you can pull it off, I wanna see it :)

yes, I understand it will be somewhat of a mission to get the L26 in and it may prove too difficult but i wont give up until the tape measure (or the authorities) say NO! I do have a back up plan however.

There is/was a 200B Rally Car running in Vic a couple of years ago with an L24 fitted. It looked cosy, but it seemed to fit between the radiator and the firewall. So, if the 180B has the same distance from the radiator to the firewall, maybe its a good transplant. Will be front heavy.

it has arrived!
picked it up this arvo and drove it home, very surprised about how well it drove, stopped and the overall condition.
pics in its "original spec" will go up tomorrow.
time to formulate a plan, talk to an engineer about my mods and then decide if i register and then mod or do the whole car and then get it registered. just depending on the view the authorities take to my plans????

take a look at the 2000GTX 610's in japan.
They have an L20 6 cylinder
they have been extended between the strut towers and firewall and the radiator is mounted in the nose outside the engine bay in order to fit the 6 cylinder.

So there's a lot of work in it, would be a shame to cut up a nice wagon, but hey if you're up for it...... just make sure you do it properly :)

what about a recessed firewall, you could weld in a boxed section, just means less room in the cabin for the heater box and other stuff...

Why not an L20B 2.4 grunter, itll have torque for cruising and same
capacity as l24 not to mention easier to engineer.

anth510,
I am currently in the process of reading through a lot of rules and regulations to check the legalities of the conversion and it seems that any modifications to the firewall are not allowed, so unless its a show/track only car, the easiest solution is out.

d,
because that would be too easy :giggle:

I have taken some measurements and the six is around 770mm from the rear of the head to the nose of the water pump pulley. the engine bay is about 20mm longer, so it should fit. there is enough room on the other side for a radiator not sure about the fan though. need a engine block, pump and fan to check, so debating about whether to buy one and then sell it on later if it doesn't fit or go to my back up plan.
