Got me thinking, how do YOU wash your datsun?

Maybe you do it at home gently with a sponge and a bucket? or with a bodgy high pressure hose that eats money?

Regardless, photos are encouraged and perhaps tips on keeping things neat etc.

We love it They love it WASH YOUR CAR!!

i cry when it unexpectantly rains while i'm driving

but because she no longer is used for daily duties it gets stored under cover and cleaned/waxed using fw1

i may only take ot to a car wash for a rinse only, then wax it up again - put the covers on.

I don't really enjoy washing my cars, I see it as a chore, hoses n stuff get tangled, get wet feet, does my head in! I do like having a clean car though.

I wash it at home, my routine is:

- vacuum the interior first so the electrical cord doesn't sit on wet ground
- chamois the dash + steering column to get the dust off it
- spray car with water
- wash with whatever soap and a mit, nothing fancy
- rinse
- dry with chamois
- if I'm feeling fancy, some silicone spray on the tyres
- if I'm not feeling lazy, get the air gun and blow water out of places where it sits (like inside the mirrors) so it doesn't drip out later.

Plus 1. I keep the 1600 under a cover most of the time. If there is only very light dirt I use a water less wash.

I used to work at a carwash, so my car used to be washed every saturday morning for free.

Sadly those days are over, but I still get the odd freebie if I run into my boss, who incidently used to run a Datsun dealership that apparently opened around the same time the 200B was launched.

My car sits on the lawn outside, so it gets dirty fast. If I wash it on a Saturday it'll be fairly dirty again by Tuesday. I can't be bothered with car covers, we have one for the Austin somewhere but we don't even cover that.

I don't use high pressure on the 1600.
if I use one of the cleaning bays I usually use the low pressure option (so don't pull the trigger) and generally spray it down and then I bust out the chamois and give it a full wash in the bay. If people are waiting, I just use the excuse "it's an old car mate". :D

did mine yesterday. i do it weekly cause i have an hour to kill on wednesdays between work. i went to a different place its in west heidelburg (not a place a like to venture) anyway this place had a million extra options even though it cost a bit more it was amusing. i dont think the paint conditioner did a f#cking thing. or the "final seal" which i do believe was a mix of hydrogen and oxygen.

but the thing i wanted to spruik was because its an american chain (including voice overs) it has american products and the glass wipes where amazing cleaned off stuff windex never touched or that i could even see.

where abouts in west heidelberg? I drive through there every day to get to/from work. There's always something entertaining going on, like a toothless middle aged man riding a pee wee 50 with a can of jack in one hand and a ciggie in the other, pure class

just before latrobe uni on waterdale rd still cant recall the name. i like the place near the heidelburg mall its way cheaper then the other joint. but the chap on the pee wee uses that one as a shortcut.

west heidi has some amazing charecters living and working near there i have experienced them all. i was most shocked when i was like 12 and a guy asked if i was dealing speed at the pool at olympic village. but it may be the norm round there.

haven't washed it yet, still putting it together, coming up 18 months, nearly watertight from the outside (outer belt moulds to go) layer of dust over it. most likely do the same as I do with the STI, rinse it down with the karcher, wash with a mitt and meguiars soap wash, then rinse down with the karcher or just a running hose (depends if we get water restrictions here in WA like they were in QLD a few years back!!), chamois and use compressed air (from my lungs) to blow water out of door handles, mirrors, boot lid and bonnet areas :)
