hi all,

i'll need some plastic welding done to my dash fascia when im ready to install the dash.

problem is that its gonna look obvious there has been a repair done. so i was thinking of painting the entire dash black again after the repairs.

has anyone ever painted their dash fascias, glove box, radio surround etc??

what paint did you use? (gloss, matt, any clear used etc), did it look original and new again or did it just look tacky? the oem finish on the dash plastic faces is not smooth, dont wanna ruin that look if i throw a light coat on.

:?:

If you have done a good job on the repair, a good quality satin black will work well, looks especially great when you wipe some silicone spray/tyre shine over it - factory look.

Have a read of this thread (only 3 pages), it's a guy who does very neat dash work/gauge installs/electronics. http://zilvia.net/f/chat/350080-s14-clu ... llers.html

Specifically, go tot page 2 where he says he uses "SEM Texture Coat", a quick Google brings up this http://www.yourautotrim.com/semteco.html not sure if they'd ship to Aus though.

Found this link to an aussie forum http://www.mobileelectronics.com.au/for ... red-paint/ if you go to post #8 there is a guy who says he can get it, maybe sign up and pm him?

not sure about the SEM product, but go down to a panel beating suppliers that stocks UPOLL products and get some UPOLL texture coat, it comes in fine and coarse.

I made a custom steering cover shroud for my 1600 to use r31 stalks, i cut up a couple of r31 shrouds plastic welded them into a good shape.
Bit of bog, sanded it, finished with the upoll texture coat. looks factory

I think smash repairers use the product to fix and retexture plastic bumpers

I used the VHT as well. Came up tops and still looks just as good today. Just get pleanty of prepsol on the parts and give them a good clean before paint.
