Hey guys,

Have always browsed this forum for various parts and info so i decided to join and start a thread on my car, had a few projects over the years but have had to sell them for one reason or another.
A little while ago i purchased this straight 1200 sedan from Canberra
Got it home and started work on it straight away. Since ive had the car i have been collecting bits and pieces for the build which include a full ca18det conversion, R31 diff and struts and various parts that i have come across that i need.

Ive been busy lately installing a maddat trans tunnel, Cut out the front for the cooler and just tidying up a few things on the body before the final coat of primer. Absolutely all of the work will be done by myself includidng all fab work, Paint and panel, all engine/mechanical work etc etc.. apart from the wiring which Kev rowley will be doing, and respiling the axle because i dont have access to the machines lool. Plans are:

Body- Clean white 2K respray, basically all standard, all chrome redone etc

Wheels and suspension/brakes- 14" steel rims powdercoated black, with whitewalls and dress rims for now
reset leaves and blocks in the back, DIY coilovers at the front 120y struts, Silvia Brake conversion in the front
R31 brakes rear, with new slotted disks and lines etc.
udjustable camber tops and lower control arms

Engine- Standard CA18DET
Standard 5 speed with extreme clutch
Microtech or wolf3d ecu
550cc injectors, turbosmart reg
Custom Inlet manifold with 80mm billet throttle
Garrett GT2876R on aftermarket manifold
450x300x76mm front mount, alluminium S13 radiator
Mandrel bent 3" exhaust
Carter lift pump, surge tank and 044
all the usual polished piping and silicone

Interior- full retrim in dark red vinyl
Dash reconditioned
New carpet and hoodlining

Im goin for the sleeper look, basically restoring the car with a highly modified driveline.
heres a few pics i have, few of them are from steve when i was looking at buying but it basically still looks the same.

What an absolute pearler to start with for a project, beautiful body and i love that blue you have used to paint the cam covers with, i did a 64 ute in that color (i think it was called Dodge blue when i bought it 20 odd years ago. Keep up the good work and plenty of pics well done m8

Looking good Wardy, that car will fly once it's done. I drove a 1200 ute once with a worked A14 and that felt fast so this should feel very fast!

Looking at yr 1200 makes me sad. A mate got a mint one years go, now it it sits completey stripped and lookin shithouse. Your's on the other hand went from average to kick arse, Looking awesome mate good to see a 1200 getting the treatment it deserves.

thanks guys, yeh i have been one of those ppl that have abandoned 1200 projects in the past, but im finishing this one lol.
It should be fairly quick, ive now decided to build a fresh engine, CP pistons, spool rods, tomei procams, cometic gaskets and ARP bolts through out
Also goin with a Garrett GT3071R, and a full build auto (some time next year) so it should move along alright haha

Lookin real good mate :D. Can I add one suggestion though? You might want to cover the holes somehow in the radiator support where the cooler pies come through. The reason is you might find your cooler and radiator are not as efficient as they should be as the more air will take flight through those holes rather than through your cooler and radiator. Same goes if there is a gap up the top between your Rad and the support.

thanks mate.. yeh i have thought about this also. I think i am going to run it this way for now and see how it performs. If i have some dramas ill make up some sheet to cover it. cheers for the suggestion tho

awesome work. looks good. Question: what type of paint are you spraying, enamel or acrylic?
from the shots its coming up pretty smooth and glossy off the gun. ;)

Post subject:  Re: Wardys Sedan project

thanks boys.. its painted in a 2 pack solid, so no clear coat. it is coming up pretty good off the gun actually. A little too good on that front guard (closest one in the pic) got to the workshop today to check on them and it has 2 massive runs. can be fixed but bloody annoying! Its my first time using 2 pack, so the job will be far from perfect, but hey... its costing me under $500 and the car is being built to be driven hard, as long as it looks neat doing so lol

After using Urathane and Ethyl Ketone type 2 pack paints for a long time on my cars i have learned that the best way to avoid runs regardless of the ambient or artificial temps you are spraying in, is add another 4 inches in distance away from the job than you actually think of being, do not be alarmed if you think it is drying too quick from the gun to the job as the chemical reaction happening beneath the laminar shell of the paint will cause the paint to settle into its matrix.
But considering it is the 1st time you have used 2 pack it is a very very nice job, WTG m8
