So what's you preffered choice? Autometer, VDO, SAAS, ect. I'm planning on using water + oil temp, oil preasure, tacho and maybe a speedo. Tell us your thoughts, cheers Jay

I like VDO, Speco and Stewart Warner gauges. Autometer can go eat a D!ck.

There are many different styles in the VDO range. They and Stewart Warner are the best you can get. Speco is a cheaper option but, still better then Autowrongmeter IMO

I recommend direct reading or mechanical gauges irrespective of brand.
However, VDO has some really nice looking items and I personally use their products.
Don't feel restricted to automotive gauges, have a look at their marine range for something different
You can pay zillions for trendy brand name stuff but what you should be aiming for is QUALITY and ACCURACY

Yep I aggree that's why so many OEM's use VDO and Stewart Warner. They are quality items.

well im gonna be the odd one out here and say i like/use autometer gauges and i also prefer electronic gauges so easy to install and most manufacturers use electronic gauges nowdays anyway so they cant be too bad but that is my preference thats all.

i have electronic speedo, tacho, fuel level, oil pressure, volts, water temp and a mechanical boost gauge

i ordered mine from the usa http://www.summitracing.com cost me about $1500
( cheapest i could get them for in aust was $2500) at the time but my fuel level, oil pressure, volts and water temp are the full sweep electronic so they cost a bit more than normal short sweep ones ( and the dollar was at 93c us then too) i couldn't find any VDO ones cheaper when i was looking ( i may not have looked hard enough)

I'm with MYDATO, I dont like autometer gauges at all, I have 6 pro comp ultralite gauges and the only one I like is the speedo, it's perfect. The others I dont trust at all.

VDO for me.

Not as expensive as some of the Autometer.
I've got 200km/h Speedo, oil press, oil temp, water temp.
I've got an Autometer Cobalt boost gauge to 20psi

The speedo is just excellent and 'period' looking to the 1600. You can't tell the difference if you aren't a 1600 owner.

+1 I think Autometer-style gauges look stupid in Datsuns. Find something that looks the part AND is accurate. For myself I will be using a combination of standard 200B gauges and various VDO items I have picked up from swapmeets. Not 100% accurate (unless re0conditioned) but then again neither are 30+-year-old Datsun gauges. Provided they're about right I'll know there's a problem when one moves from its normal position, which is good enough for me.
