Hey guys, was a member of ozdat about 6 years ago but forgot my login/different email etc so joined up again.. have owned over 50 180b's over the last 14 or so years.. But my most prized possesion is a SSS i bought from sydney 10 years ago. I'm the 3rd owner and the 2nd owner turned it into a rally car for the NSW state championship. It had a huge amount of prep from stew wilkin's rallying but a few things done by the previous owner were very average. So i pulled it apart and rebuilt it and competed in the SA state championship for 2 years finishing 3rd outright in the state in 2002.. i then up graded to a mitsi evo to run the national rally championship, so the datto got put in a mates shed for 4 or so years.

I then finished rallying as it cost me waay to much cash so sold the expensive turbo AWD and dragged the datto out of the shed, stripped it and gave it a bare shell rebuild for the 2007 alpine rally. That event was a blast and good sucess for us. the datto got another year off in 2008 but in 2009 i ran it in the australian rally championship in SA. we had a crazy weekend and were the fastest 2WD by minutes and finished 9th outright in the entire field!! After that event i decided to start spending serious cash on the old girl and bought some remote canistor shocks from australia's finest suspension GURU murry coote. Close to 8k later and the shocks are in the car ready for alpine 2009. had a few dramas that event but i'm still highly inspired to keep upgrading the datto.. R200 CV joint rear end first, then a stroker sucking through some 48's.. Already the car runs a holinger option gearbox and had a 1998cc L18 with a pair of 45mm webbers, 4wheels disc brakes, full cage, carbon kevlar VELO apex seats etc

here are some pics, enjoy

Jack

That's the moment when all the money you spent on the suspension pays off.

Awesome car, got any more photos?

thanks for all the comments guys.. great to see that some of you remember it from years gone by.. Yes the shocks pay for them selfs and have saved me denting the roof skin a few times... they are only a recent addition.. the 40mm Bilstiens did a fantastic job for the years prior to 2009! I'm hoping the grunter wil suit my driving, will just install a revlimiter if i must.. it will be like driving a group N evo rally car again, no revs but great midrange! but first on the list is a CV rear end..

Have heaps of pics, just didnt want to bore you just yet. so i'll put some incar footage up first then some pics soon.

i have uploaded some incar from rally sa 2009.. our intercom wasnt working with the incar so u will just have to listen to the wicked tune of webbers at full noise!
cheers

Hi Jack,

I noticed that you are using a steer tyre on the front, Good thing? Did you change any steering angle with that type of tyre?

Have a look at the Wolf Creek CVs have used them on a Zed, Very nice made the whole car much smoother.

John
