hey all thought i'd start a thread on my '74 120y 4 door sedan.

it has been resprayed in the turquoise original colour body is very straight. currently running 13x5's with 185/60 rubber on them. everything else is pretty standard been lowered king spring lows (may need to go lower one day), nolathane all round, mad dat strut brace, reversed springs in the back..

Plans are to drop a worked L18 in with twin su's so far, use an r30 gearbox for shifter location (any other suggestions??), keep standard diff till it dies and 120y auto tail shaft heard they fit. Going to use stanza mounts and weld them up to my standard crossmember.. anyway i will continue to update during build and try to get heaps of pics up..

cheers

what front end parts are needed? i have heard crossmember, control arms and then have to buy new nolathane bushes for it figured welding saddles on the 120y xmember would be cheaper?

if you searched around you would get the stuff to convert for stuff all and if i would you when putting the new bigger motor in just to be on the safe side replace all the front end bushes anyway.
if most of the bushes are std they would be old and perished

it was just an idea anyway save being unsafe with welds cracking and an accident

Very nice ride.

With that worked L-18 it is going to be a nice powerful ride. With lowered suspension it will be an awesome nice ride.

Cheers! :cheers

hey yeh well ive already replaced all the bushes throughout the whol car with nolathane all front end components have been replaced tie rods etc...i see what u mean about the welds but if a pro welder welds his welds should be pretty safe i would think.

keep the opinions coming though helps a lot..

yeh mate got to lower it a bit further once the engine is done..

cheers!

Just a few suggestions for ride height. The easiest way to lower the front would be to fit Stanza/Sunny strut tops to whatever front strut you use, this should lower the front without shortening the suspension travel, you'll see what I mean if you compare the two. For the rear springs, I'd get the second longest spring put in upside down & a half spring on the top of the main spring for axle tramp. Get the springs serviced at the same time & you should be good to go. I did the spring trick in a Sunny Panel Van, which have leaf springs & totally stopped the axle tramp. Axle tramp is bad in the 76 120Y sedan I'm driving now, stock A12 & 4 speed, I wouldn't like to even guess what it'd be like with a worked L18.

started putting bits and pieces back on engine today. pulled then up for general tidy up and paint. all went pretty smoothly except for two rocker cover bolts on the inlet/exhaust side won't go in.. the holes are stripped out not sure how far down and cant get the bolt to bite in with the cover and gasket on..so may need longer bolts depending on how stripped or tap a slightly larger hole and go with different bolts..i hate time consuming crap like this!!

Good luck on the tappet cover situation, hopefully all it needs is longer bolts to get down into un-f88ked threads.

What wheels are these? Name Manufacturer? They look nice! Too bad the rears weren't a bit wider though.

You got a link to a thread that has pics of how to do what you just said? Does that make the rear sit higher or lower at all?

hey mate wheels are peformance hurricanes i believe yeh back needs to be wider...got some 13x8 back and 13x6 front 6 slot jelly beans sitting at home though i picked up for free..could look alright polished up..or once the l18 is in get some 15 inch chasers with widened rears to clear brakes and have a bit of a sleeper look..will try get some picks of the jelly beans up..

would also like a pic of the spring setup he is talking about

cheers
