hey stu, nice ride mate.
are you running dash 6 fuel lines? could you let me know if your engineer was happy with securing fuel lines with p clamps.
cheers, dan.

Thanks Dan. Yeah it's dash 6 for the fuel lines(supply and return). I used speedflow fitting on each ends with 5/16(8mm) push on fittings as that's what size the rail and fuel pumps were.
I didn't have an issue with the p clamps when engineering it. But in saying that one engineer wanted full hard lines inside and out on an SR powered corolla a mate is building. Considering the huge differences between states, I'd ask around a few engineers closer to you.

Stu.

P.S. Most LPG shops use p clamps to secure LPG lines. Which was what I was going to put to the engineer if he did have a problem with them.

Ok time for a mini update. Dad and I, have been enjoying the 1600 for a while now. With only a few
small issues. The original alternator died a few months ago, so thanks to green200b's advice I purchased a r31 skyline alternator. Fits pretty easy after you change the pulleys over and wire
In new regulator plug. Horn has also died but was an easy fix, I just bought a new one. Issues I'm rectifying at the moment are, high beems work, when they want too and front muffler has collapsed.

Now the high beems have me stuck. Main issue is I think it's a combo switch issue, but I didn't build the car(just the conversion), so it could be anything. I'm leaning towards maxima as that's what the seats are out of. I'll get some pics of it when I get to my laptop. Hopefully someone will recognize it.

Now to the front muffler issue. That's not really a problem as it needs a
3" anyway. So I'm in the process of removing the rear end to enlarge the hole in the crossmember and replacing the bushes. Then getting a new 3" system from almost the turbo back.

Stu.

Fixed!! I was down at my local self serve wreckers yesterday gathering bits for my corolla. Spotted a couple of early maximas and seems the combo switch and maybe whole steering column is out of a HJ30 maxima. So I found the best one gave the guy $20 and works perfectly!

Crossmember is out and waiting for the pipe to be welded in. I should have it together with the new exhaust late this week or early next.

Wow, I must have forgotten about this thread. Until I get a chance to fill in the gaps, I'll just leave this for everyone.

So my tuner and I had decided to make the change to E85 after fitting the new T4 turbo.
Took it in Saturday and while idling out the last bit of 98 out of the surge tank she developed a nasty death rattle. I hadn't even put any corn oil in the tank yet.
I dead set can't catch a brake with this thing!
I pulled the turbo yesterday it seemed to be seized, but on closer inspection it appears to have inhaled some piston ring and piston(see photo)
Oh well forged engine time so watch this space.

Any hints as to what caused the issue?

It did blow about a third of the top ring land off no1 piston.
Im thinking it was one of three things, a batch of bad fuel, lifting head(tuns 18-20psi) and it did free boost once with the std ecu a while ago.
Just finished the "built" engine. Shes now full of arp stuff, cometic MLS HG, Spool conrods and some e85 friendly 9.4:1 forgies I knocked out one weekend. Should have it in Saturday and then tune next week.

Always remember that FJ turbo sprite that used to beat the chevy with all the sponsors and circus
In reality Mitsubishi copied the Fj for their 4g63 and now look at its success, its unbelievable.
FJ is what really started the turbo trend for Nissan car enthusiasts, nice choice and great persistence

Thanks D, although I don't think persistence is quite the word. Haha

It's waiting to be picked up by tow truck to be dropped off at the tuners. Won't have any power figures yet as it will just have a run-in tune.

Not enough fuel pump seems to be the cause Nick.

So seeing as ive been slack not updating this, I'm going to do my best to keep it up to date from now on.
So new engine specs are.

.5mm oversize Special Piston Services 9.4:1 custom forgies.
Spool imports conrods.
.052" Cometic MLS head gasket.
ARP 2000 series head studs.
Upgrade valve springs.
Std cams.
Std head ports.
T04 turbo
Haltech sprint 500
Id1000 inhectors.
E85 fuel.

Haven't had it on the dyno yet. But the bum dyno says it's got as much, if not a bit more up top on 12psi, than the small highflow turbo did on 18psi with std motor and 98 fuel. 17-18psi is just bonkers, so I rolled it back to 12 so old mate could get used to it and run in the new engine. The higher comp and E85 has netted massive torque increases and its made it nice to drive it off boost too.

Sorting loading some photos now. Everyone loves some engine porn.

Sweet. Good to hear the engine is back.
Dyno comparison chart? Would be great to see the comparison between bits and pieces.
