After searching for 6 months for parts and panels finally find suitable panels and end up buying the whole car. ive decided that its in better nick than the original one so ive started adding bits off the original one (which will soon be for sale) to it. the plan is get it registered until my next birthdy and then take it off the road for a sr20det transplant.
i didnt start a thread for the other one but i figured this one will be staying around. ive got pics but i dont know how to post the if anyone can give me any help with that .

Its a bit rough in a couple spots and theres a few rust holes visible but its looking pretty good after i gave it a good wipe down. i plan to fix the rust soonish and roughly match the paint just to have paint on it. but wont do a propper paint job until after the engine swap and i have funds. (i got no beef with dodgy paint :) )

do you guys think i should keep the front over riders on the bumper i have started to like them but im undecided??

It will be good to see it come along.I like the over riders, more chrome the better :)

to upload pics you will have to shrink them down to a max of 1024 pixels and then add them by clicking on the browse button below this part,it will come up with your photos then just click the one u want.for more then 1 I hit preview and then go to browse again, theres probaly another way but i dont know much about computers

Hey its been slow moving but i have an update.
i wasnt liking the grill and headlight surround being grey so i decided to see why they were painted over, i ripped out the paint stripper and started stiping only to fid lovely chrome on the headlight surrounds. the grill was chrome to but only the top and bottom (lines?) have come up completely chrome the other lines still have some paint on them so a bit more stripping is needed.
also switched the rear bumper off the other car but havent put it on yet.
tomorrow is having a go a switching the lowered suspension off the other one onto the green machine but we'll see how that goes.
i tried to get the engine going aswell but the cabin seems to have no power (anyone have any ideas as to what may be rooted or unplugged) so i couldnt use the key to turn it over so i bridged the starter motor and found a couple cracked hoses spraying fuel around the engine bay near the sparking starter motor so i decided to stop that. well long story short is, fixed the hoses but it still wont start i have checked for spark yet but i dont think it has any. any ideas on whats wrong???
cheers

You may have already read that i was switching the struts on the dattos as the white one had 240k struts that are also lower :D
i just finished and it took about 3hrs to swap them completely (off, off, on, on, off, off, on, on) it was a big pain in the arse but its looking good already as they start to settle. next trick will be the rear springs and shocks.
anyone got any tips or wanna let me know how hard it is go for it
cheers

Its been a while but stuffs been done.
got the grill all painted and shiny, got all the wheels with tyres and on changed over the glovebox and the sun shades.
i got the l20 out of the other car and checked the head and what not i found the pistons a re oversized and the head looks to have been ported shaved and shimmed and i think it has o/s valves aswell, with the l series heads am i meant to run lead substitute? i also think the cam is 72 deg because 72 is stamped into the end but i dont know how the cam numbers work or if you can regrind the standard cam to 72 (it looks standard?).also were double valve springs standard for the u67 head? heres some pics.

Hey guys now i have a bit more of an idea of what going to make its way into the car i thought id make a list to see what you guys think..

engine L18 with u67 head ported with o/s valves and a 72 deg cam (unkown other specs on cam), head has been shaved. pistons flat tops (if theres clearance with cam and head etc) otherwise small dish pistons. bores will be checked and maybe overbored a little. standard bottom end with new bearings and rings etc. the carbies will either be the twin su's currently on it or a set of twin 45 webbers (anybody know what these sell for these days have a set lined up but not sure yet). exhaust will be a set of extractors and a 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 inch exhaust with the one hotdog and rear muffler and dumper tip =)
this will go onto a 5 speed gearbox, either the r30 5spd i got out of the parts car the other day or the current gear box which i dont know what is (not dogleg but regular 5spd). as yet the diff wil be standard but looking into r180 from uncles old 720 ute at his place.

my questions are what sort of comp ratio will this give (roughly) and will there be clearance for the valves with flat tops?
also will the 45s be over the top?
would a 32/36 webber have any advantages over twins other than rego pass abilities??

Cheers guys let me know what you think or if you can see something that may need improving

The pitting in your head can cause pre ignition, any sharp edge can start to get hot and glow,it may be fixable im not sure

The exhaust i would recommend using a 2 inch with the 32/36 webber/ su's or 2 1/4 inch if using the twin webbers,1 hot dog and 1 muffler will be good and just keep it quite enough.
su's are alright, but nothing compared to a pair of webbers or dellortoes,I prefer the 32/36 webber over a pair of su's.
twin webbers setup cost between $250-$1000 depending on condition, for around $500 you will get a good set up.

have you done the rear springs yet?, the way i do it is to jack the car up high, unbolt the half shafts at the outer flange, unbolt the shockie at the bottom.then the springs should come out.if they dont just pull out sit a lever bar on the trailing arm between the coil and lever it out and may have to lever the others back in

Keep up the good work

Good news (kinda), because my skyline was stolen, i decided i need a car to drive and got the datsun a few more steps closer to registration. got some fresh tyres and "fixed" my carbs, making it driveable :D just need to get through an inspection. does this mean i cant have any rust holes in panels? im in the ACT if it makes a difference.
