I'm trying to track down a place which sells some good quality sound deadener to quiet down the inside of my car.. ( )
I've heard of this stuff:

http://www.dynamat.com/
and
Stinger RoadKill

But the local Autobarn has it only in the small sheets, and judging on their past efforts of ordering stuff in, the larger sheets wont be in until 2012.
Can anyone in VIC recommend a local stereo installer or automotive reseller that has this stuff (or anything else for that matter) in stock?

Cheers!

Ive a mate with 1GGTE in a RA23 Celica (Read: LOOOOUD) and he's put the jaycar insulation in along with new good quality carpet and it seem to be acceptable to him.

at WOW, my mate works there and i was going to get the Dynamat Extreme (i hear thats the best to use) in the large pack, it reatailed at $299 at there store, i think i could have got it for around $200, covers 36sqft too, all i hear about this stuff is good, and have seen some good results on mates VZ statesman - he has a full Alpine catalogue put in his car, splits, amps, subs, tweeters, headunit, dvd player etc, and about 3 months later he got all the doors and boot done in the stuff, and the quality of sound increased noticably, enough that he went and got the system retuned again, was definately worth it

As for people that will winge about adding weight to your car, FFS, its like 10kg if that and the benefits far outweigh the added weight

When i was going to fo it to my old 1600, i spoke to local sound system guru as to be the best put to place them, and he said with one box of the stuff, cover the firewall, and boot, as its these two areas that have the most sound coming from them, then the trans tunnel front to rear, then doors and then floor, then roof lastly, all up would be over to boxes worh, maybe more

Is this to reduce road noise? If so, the super lightweight sound and heat insulation stuff Baz sells (i.e. 3kg for 7m).

If it's for acoustics, try the Fusion sound deadner. Heaps cheaper than Dynamat, but not quite as good.

Not to reduce road noise. Road noise I can live with, because I can't hear it due to the sound of the diff, fuel pump and the exhaust!

then i'd go with the best stuff, all around the rear, above the diff and rear seat area, along with the inside of the rear quarter panels, that would be the first place to put the stuff

Hey Baz,

What's it worth to do the interior (floor) of a 1600?

Iggy

We still sell it for $38 meter, think its about 1100 wide.
so you can work out how much you need.
7 meters, enough to do a complete job on a 16
including under the hood lining & doors weighs 3kg.
We can get this to most places for $30 or so.

This stuff is a great heat insulator.
Used it on a recent reno on the house, magic sh*t.

It was designed for sound deadening.

I've put an order down on some of the Dynamat stuff. I found an offer I couldn't refuse.
So I guess we'll see how it goes.

A question for Baz.

I have no doubt in my mind that the stuff you use is up there with the best, but out of curiosity have you used thre Dynamat Extreme product before? and if you have how does it rate against the stuff you sell, obviously its more expensive, but just seeing what your thoughts on it are

I put some Dynamat Xtreme in my car a couple of months ago, it makes a huge difference. I put the dynamat in the doors, a bit on the boot floor and above the diff.

Also I found some other similar stuff Coolit Thermotec Suppressor - I put this on the firewall and floorpan to stop passengers feet getting burned, it's actually very similar to the Dynamate Xtreme but quite a bit cheaper. Then I put a layer of Thermotec ThermoGuard as a carpet underlay.

After all that it made a huge difference to NVH, the floor doesn't get hot at all now, and my doof doof equipment sounds better as well ;)

Great feedback.

Just out of curiosity Chris, is your dump pipe and exhaust close to your firewall, or is it that you take people out on the track when you are using WOT alot?
