Hey Guys,

pulled out my heater and its rooted, you can see all the crusty built up white crap around the core (it was leaking before it went off the road) So i pulled the core out of the blue one i wrecked recently but noticed it was bypassed in the bay and sure enough its rooted too.

So, im thinkn an electric 12V heater piped into my plumbing behind the dash demisting will be the go. You can pick em up on ebay for ~$40. Does anyone have experience with this sorta thing or done something different? Im liking the idea of ditching the heater unit as its massive, heavy and creates issues.

Any input appreciated.

I believe Pro has had success mounting a 12v camping hair dryer into his old kingswood... u should contact him he recons its the bomb. I have looked into it too and will probly end up doing it to my ute this winter as ballarat is **** cold and my diesel never heats up enough to opertate the heater.

I have also done this and it worked a treat, just mounted it to the old air duct that points at the windscreen.

i think i read that Dattoboy did the same with 12v.
or buy a new core from the aftermarket radiator suppliers.. if the dimensions are close you could make it fit
and it's probably cheaper than a recore.. i've had some nasty quotes over the years.
they normally have books with samples that give dimensions, pics, etc...

Ebay has them also. Do they still need plumming into the lines though like the heater core ie. those copper pipes to the side. Or is it a little 12v electrical heater?
Retrofitting a heater from a different car is hard. A pain in the ass hard. And hardly worth it unless your pedantic like me :)
Usually the box is a lot bigger, and the blower is separate. You'll also have a hard time to get recirculating air working - or not use it at all which is the easier option.

Check out these guys

http://www.t7design.co.uk/index.php?mai ... d8df8fdaae

I ordered a micro heater and recieved it a few weeks ago so I can't comment on the heat output at this stage as I'm only part way through install

Also ordered 2 xof the 1/2" to 5/8" bulk head fittings so I can have inlet and outlet on the drivers side better suit FJ conversion (and also ducting, true Y and 2 inch to 2.5 inch converters)

I can say it looks like a top piece of gear and the micro heater is tiny so should be fairly straightforward to fit and the guy who runs T7 is a great guy to deal with......just have a wait a few weeks for shipping from the UK

Also following nissanmans advice on another thread re: bluebird heater tap setup so I can keep the stock 1600 dash controls operational but if you don't have one the universal ones from either T7 or ebay should be easy to rigg up

i have the same issue, boat shops have tiny 12v hairdryers for 20bucks that can be routed to ur ducts easy as, has a small on off switch and pumps out heat and flow. draws 18amps on startup and 5-6 while running. perfect for rego. Thats what i did
