My first foray into Datsun ownership is this light Blue 200B wagon. I'm sure it will be a change from the Skylines and Triumphs i've had in the past, for starters, i'll fit more in the back. It's a 1980 GL model with a bit of rust in most doors & behind the wheel arches, which will keep me busy for a bit. The interior is excellent for a 300k km car, with just a saggy drivers seat to show for it. car has bee fitted with a 5 speed and central locking at some stage, which is a handy bonus. Don't know much about the mechanicals (apart from it runs & doesn't blow smoke) as it's not on the road yet. A new clutch went in last week.

File comment: I really like the updated front of these later models. Even has the original headlight protectors.

Looks awesome! Very clean and tidy. The rust is in the normal places, by the sound of it. Hopefully it won't give you too much trouble. More photos? |

The car needs a new dizzy cap & occasionally jumps out of 1st if you dial up the revs a bit quick, but other wise drives nicely.

That looks quite clean actually. I have lots of 200B parts here if you need any and am also wrecking a 200B wagon now. I'm guessing by the plates you're in in Victoria? If so where? |

Thanks for the comments peoples, I've got some mags sitting around that will probably end up on the car at some stage, either Triumph S 14"s, or if i can spare the dollars i'll get new tyres for the Silhouette 15"s. Don't know quite when i'll put it on the road yet, looks like a hot summer coming up here near Shepparton & there's no aircon. I guess its not real easy or cheap to retro fit. |

It's not too hard, if you can find an original aircon setup from a 200B. Just need to get it regassed. |

The 200B finally goes in for a RW check tomorrow....after 5 months of sitting around the back yard it's about time too. I'm a bit nervous, hope they don't find anything too nasty in there. I know it'll need a few rubbers in the front end some exhaust manifold & muffler work. Lets hope thats all, it is meant to be a cheap & cheerful run around. |

Well, that didn't go too bad after all. Following a thorough inspection all it needs is castor rubbers, front brake flexible hoses, re kit a rear wheel cylinder, fix a broken passenger seat mounting bracket, rear muffler & exhaust manifold gasket. Not bad for an Ebay cheapie with an excellent interior. It gets me thinking though - how much for a set of extractors while doing the exhaust and do seats from later nissans bolt straight in? ( drivers side is a bit lopsided) Should be on the road within 3 weeks if i pull my finger out. |
