Note! The R31 strut tube is offset to the inside further than
early Datsun struts.
This gives more clearance for wheels.
The correct measurement is from underneath the struts.
measure from the steering knuckle mounting bolts to hub face.

I wonder if it's something that we could get a bulk discount on?
Couldn't be too hard to get 10-20 bars together for rechroming if the price was good, could it?

I doubt there are many perfectly straight bumpers out there any more......

I don't think that includes straightening. You can still find straight bumpers, just takes a bit of patience.

couple of years back in NSW i had my bumpers re-rolled and re-chromed by All metal bumpers. Think it cost me about $375 a bar and one had been in a serious accident and was re-bent and welded back straight again. How much is freight to NSW going to cost you?

The first quote did, i.e. 'repair and rechrome'.
I didnt ask the second firm but i imagine so.
The price may go up if your bar was pretty cactus though as it would take alot of hours in labour to straighten.
I'd recommend to rechrome the straightest bar you can find though so you know its the proper shape etc...

Cheers guys for the input.
My bars are pretty much dead straight (to my own eyes anyway) so they wont take much repairing to get them pretty good. Just need to be stripped and chromed.

One of my old man's mates reckons there arent any good chroming places in SA, and that he sends his away to Victoria to get his chroming done. He showed an example on his pontiac firebird where the SA bits done a few years ago are fading and peeling in places, and the bumpers and stuff (done in vic) look as good as they day he had them done.

Anybody disagree with this? The prices in Victoria were better also...

In other news, still waiting to get the replacement cam so the head is still off the car.
Going to Coffin Bay fishing tomorrow for a week :D So the car wont be going for another couple.

Report back here in a week or so, adios :cheers

My bumpers are still fine with a quick polish once or twice a year and they were done by A-class back in 1999.
Whats it cost to get them done in Vic?

Hello Ozdatters,

Got the head back, fitted it on the other day, had a whinge and panic when it wouldnt start, left it a day, had another go, and she runs beaut... God knows what, was just me not running it long enough to let it settle down the first time i think...

I had a look at the chain guides when the timing cover was off and the guides and tensioner were both badly worn... Hmmm... Had a closer look and discovered that the front bolt on the thermostat housing was far too long, and when i pulled it tight the last time it screwed into the top of the RHS chain guide and forced it into the chain, tightening it horribly... Pretty nasty situation but answers many questions; the reason my started motor wouldnt turn over, the reason i couldnt turn it over by hand, the sluggishness...

So watch out for that guys...

Runs great now, need to get some bump steer spacers and wheel alignment, then a tune.

Chris

That's nasty

At least it's fixed now though.
