How about a Mini Clubman

I reckon an XF with the 5.8L, or maybe a slightly old XB ford falcon?
(with the V8 on GAS?)

Some of the rotary's (RX4 and RX3?)

what about the good old Toyota Celica that looks like a mustang!

for your first car buy as new a toyota as possible without spending it all so you can start saving for a project car. i remember begging dad to borrow money for a v8 or an xr6 but ended up getting a cheap as chips corona and it was on gas. best option ever for a first car it used to cost less then $20 a week on gas and that was only last year that i got rid of it. i can honestly say coming fresh from having just a SEMI reliable car that its not worth the headache when you need to be somewhere/or its your only form of transport and you have an accident.

it might be hard to hear but get yourself something reliable, pleease! then again if you can somehow afford both, go for it. when i was 15 i knew someone who had an ef fairmont ghia with the tickford motor and he knew i loved it; when i was 19 he rang me up and offered it to me for what you have saved up. so have a good look around eh.

cheers

Well Said Shibby73

First car I got was a white 1972 datsun 1600...
It's the car i'm doing up!!!

Cost me $1300 way back then, and cost me $20 a week to drive to Uni every day! Was awesome.

Firstly...i noticed you mentioned..."GT" and an "XD falcon"....your obviously a ford man true?.....and secondy....your in a datsun forum so you must swing that way too, yeah?

am i right???

well mate my best advise would be go with what you love....if you want an aussie icon...buy a 6cyl xc gs falcon! should find one of them for your price range...
or you could just go with your gut(your here for a reason) and buy a datto 1600,180b or what ever car it was that you saw that made you decide to ask a question like that in these forums!!

good luck mate

Cortina's and Capri's... But they're not ozzy or muscle cars... I love the early corties, like a TC or TD, i personally think there's no tuffer lookn car than one of these dumped.... And those pre x-flow motors hall arse... specially if you a chuck on a 2V (good luck finding a 2V but)... And... If you can find a two version, that would be sick... I saw one advertised with a 292 (?) V8 going for around 6 thou... that would be the ultimate....

A compact fairlane 64 and up can be had for that kind of money. However it would need work.

Each to their own. But I'm dead against "wolves in sheeps' clothings"... Look up the word 'affectation' and consider if you want to be considered such. Only my 2cw.

The only recommendation that I can think of is that you wont get 'muscle' for the budget that you've specified, that's not to say you can't get something with street cred: which i assume is your intention. You can get some sweet 1200 utes in that price range (depending on how tall you are: <6' suits 1200 utes IMO   ). Or you might be able to pick up an old falcon or kingswood, if you are 'johnny on the spot' and are looking and ready to pounce when that good one comes up for good money. Also I recently saw a fully pimped 180bsss go for around 10G, bit more than you've specified but....

OOOOOO one thing has just come to mind, me growing up with Ford blood pumping through my veins: XHII xr6/8 utes in good original condition is in your price range. IMO this is the last credible ute that ford made (single body not split cab:tray) before they sold out, us, the consumer for pathetic production efficiency. And they are a sweet looking ride as well

Good luck with what ever choice you make.

In addition: you can't go wrong with a good 'ol 610 :hail: what ever body type. They are a good mechanical introduction bessy and they are the beans 8) 8) , so far as I'm concerned. When I talk to 'the 'ol fellas' they always comment on how, back in the day, they could be made to go like a cut snake. But ofcourese I'm BIASED :thatdbeme: 610 <3 FTW!

oath oath oath oath oath oath oath oath oath

A six cylinder Torana with flares (which are not SLR 5000, they are L34/A9X - SLR 5000s just had a front and rear spoiler and the warpaint) is like the worst thing you can do to a Torana.

But six cylinder Toranas are amazing cars. And yes I realise this thread is dead as hell but I still had to contribute that.

my first car was a 67' VC Regal 3.7L slant 6 column shift auto

ended up selling it on for a profit after a year of solid TLC :)

So about 5 years later, I wonder if Nigel got his muscle car.

I replaced my 1600 when I was 22 with a 1977 HZ Premier.

I loved that car, heaps of chrome, over-riders front and back, Monaro GTS rims, bucket seats etc.... It was slow as all hell (just a 202 but I put extractors on it) and it cruised so nicely.

Rust and dirt roads killed it three years later :(
