Exactly mate.

To do it properly you would need to know what you were doing and I understand what you mean about pulling back carpets etc and it is the same with alot of things in the car like the dash frame, wiring etc. You never see this stuff but it is the knowledge that you know it was all done to the best of your abilities.
Well this is the way I am trying to look at it.

by the way, my brother has a red zed which might need a respray down the track.

where abouts are you based in Canberra. Wouldn't mind looking at the car

cheers

James

You know what this car could really do with? Some nice new chromework. You know, mirrors, doorhandles, that kind of thing. Perhaps that is something you should do?

"funny you should mention that..."

Yeah, thought I'd contribute to the old trade deficit by shipping in some US chrome. Bullet mirrors, some nice chrome door handles, and window winders without the teeth worn off!!!

(in the pic with the parts installed, you can see the reflection of the lesser, daily driver zed).

I may be making history here - the first datsun in the world with fully operational door mechanisms!

Also, here is the motor that's to go in - L24E out of an MR30 skyrine.
We did a compression test on the weekend, lowest was 180 psi, highest was 185, most were around 182. So it's probably a lot better than my smokey L26 that's in there.

Yeah, I was astounded at how even those compression readings were, you really got a good deal there with that motor.

Well, yeah, it's no "$250 pristine s12" but I'm pretty happy about it.

Damn. The $250 s12 is now going to be the impossibly high benchmark by which all other bargains are judged.

I think I'll go out and buy some spark plugs just so as to eliminate that at one possible cause of the mystery misfire.

Yeha, and another tin of electrical contact cleaner :)

I recon this weekend we rig a radiator up to it and get a proper cooling system going, then let it run and get up to temperature.

You're in luck, they're still on sale at the zed store.

http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/OM03/50-1177

I got mine when the aussie dollar was up around 85c, but even at just below 80 it still kicks the hell out of anything you're likely to find on the australian market (assuming you want something else in addition to the mirrors, otherwise the cost of shipping the mirrors alone might be prohibitive).

Mine arrived after about a week USPS.

Good investment, IMO, because I've seen these mirrors on everything from 1000 utes to 260z, so you can transfer them to another datsun if the need arises (it's mounted with two 10mm holes, so really not that hard to mount to anything).

And they're chrome over metal, so not plasticy.

Just thought I'd UL some pics of the bumpers and tailights/surrounds in. She's all passed rego (with some help from Bob!) and now she's my daily.

I went with silver paint on the bumpers because they were just too dinged up to chrome.

Next step is transplanting the L24E head onto the L26 block. Fun times ahead.

Cheers. Dunno if I mentioned before, but it's actually 3 "colours" - metallic wine red, then clear with gold pearl, then clear.

Changes colour depending on the angle and light.

The good news is, unlikely I'll see anyone driving around in teh same colour.

Bad news is, if it takes a hit, whole car gets resprayed.

Haha - or according to the people doing the rego check it is just one colour - 'brown'.

The effect is quite nice in direct sun and when the car is freshly cleaned, the camera shots havent really picked it all up.

Also did you see that there was a medical report released recently that suggested that drifting freshly painted S30s can give you genital warts? So, you know, don't go drifting that thing..

LOL, right now it's hardly got enough torque to crack the rear treads, gotta have it at a fair angle in the corner and pretty high in the rev range.

However, a nice high-compression head and some fuel injection might help that.
