I was aiming to have it completely finished for datnats - 2007  . Now I'm just hoping to have all the bodywork done by Xmas.

I figure there's no point rushing it, plus I've managed to accumulate pretty much all the bits I need for the mechanical side of things in the couple of years I've been doing the bodywork as well as (hopefully) worked out how I'm going to do it all.

Yes! The body on ours is done and ready to paint. Light blue like you're thinking. Luckily it sounds like we'll be done before you so technically you'll be copying us :P

Keep up the hard work mate, it's taken us 3 cars to make 1 good one.

Anymore pics of your car ? I love seeing a good restoration 8)

I've taken one really bad car and made one good one. Would have been easier if I had another donor SSS to cut out some sections rather than having to make them up from scratch.

Actually, your dad's has been a bit of an inspiration for me. Everytime I see it I have a good look, its so neat and just the style I'm aiming for (very straight and fairly original-looking with all chrome trims and badges intact)

Nah no more pics. Just sitting there all nice and clean waiting for the cage. WHICH the design got approved by CAMS, now we're just waiting for the cage builder to come out west and welder 'er up.

Dad actually did a cross state parts run this weekend. Got front coilover kit, bushes, a couple 260z gearboxes AND put the motor in at the engine builder. 200hp here we come.

Cleaned up the shed a bit (because I lost my good panelbeating gear and cracked it with the mess  ) so I thought I'd sort out what I have.

Here's some of the gear I've accumulated for the SSS.

Selection of NOS lights - anyone have a NOS chrome surround for the left hand taillight ?? Everything else is new, but the left hand light was off a sedan so the outer trim was different to the SSS. I just need the chrome surround to make up a new set of taillights

[ img ]

Plenty of brake stuff, even a pair of Datsport brackets hiding in there !!
[ img ]

Numerous gasket sets, bearing sets, water pumps and other random engine stuff - I love a good swap meet !!

[ img ]

All new 200B steering components (except drag link), plus a selection of NOS shocks. Interestingly, the genuine Nissan ones are identical to the Tokico Prodra-G ones - same markings and they feel the same. Only difference is the black paint and a Nissan part number stamped into them

Anyone have a new 200B drag link ??? Can't find one anywhere.

[ img ]

Forged pistons, ARP bolts, stainless oversized valves, new guides, CA18 CAS, LS1 coils and an L18 efi manifold (which I probably won't use)

[ img ]

Water-to-air intercooler and random manifold stuff that may become part of a custom inlet manifold setup
[ img ]

The heart of the project - near new Eaton M45 blower, plus throttle body and genuine BMW / mini cooper S blower bypass valve

And the reason I wanted to find my good panelbeating gear. I broke two of the cheap, crappy hammers from Supercheap on just one piece of the rear guard that I was hammering to shape.

Rear guard is starting to take shape. Outer section is made up from a Repco repair section (which wasn't complete as you can see where I've had to reshape it - the back end wasn't formed at all  ), the original piece that has the bumper bar recess, plus a few other bits beaten out of flat sheet.

Its a worry when a commercial rust repair section isn't big enough to repair the rust in your car  I'll need to add another two inch strip above the repair panel.

Dave,

I hope you removed the rust before you weld that panel in!

wow dave, thats a nice bunch o parts you've collected there. I did a similar thing, as things came up at a reasonable price i bought them. it takes the sting out of it financially and you get lots of cool bits!

so its going to be an efi supercharged L18 then?

Yep, its gunna be a blown, efi L18 with all the good gear  .

Buying stuff along the way like I have helps with the budget - it spreads the cost out over a few years, plus you can afford to wait for a bargain to come up rather than having to pay whatever price is asked simply because you need a part NOW or your project will come to a halt. A good example is the ecu - group buy on datnet a year or so back saved a few hundred dollars on a Haltech E6X so I bought one and stashed it away. Its come from everywhere - eBay, swap meets, group buys, swaps with other enthusaists and even some from my long-time stash of goodies - like the NOS 180B SSS dizzy !!.

I've got a stash of stuff for my 1600 as well, and I won't be even starting work on that for years

And Nik, I'll be cleaning everything before I weld it up, then painting each piece with rust-proofing paint. I really should get a new piece of body sheetmetal that hasn't rusted for making rust replacement patches
