thanks! ill look into getting some primer tomorrow just to protect the exposed metal i did today until i get it undercover and can do all of the body work properly, and take off all the old filler and discover what else lies underneath! still haven't decided on whether or not to take out the back window, and maybe try and save the rubber seal..guess ill deal with that when i get there.

wisey, don't forget about the quality respray job as well! haha oh well yeah at least the rust is looking better :D

U might b able to get the rubber out in on piece but due to the age n probably hardeness of the rubber when you went to re install it using the rope n rubber trick the rubber will probably tear and b a mole to fit lol

I think the 'rust' isn't really rusty. It's just sh ithouse bog repairs that have aged. There is a little bit of rust in the sills etc and some of this stuff will be a bit of a pain, but nothing impossible. Especially not with access to those two parts cars at the country wrecker.

I've got door rubbers from Thailand on my 230 series and they didn't fit. Had to cut at the bottom n glue to bottom of door n little push in clips were in wrong spot. Put new holes in rubber and put clips in and line up and they fit n work. Few hrs job but better than no rubber. Well yeah lol

best case scenario i won't have to mess around with the seal, otherwise will try and take it out without damaging it...if all else fails thailand rubbers it is. postage is so expensive though! thanks for the price though anyway fletch

Last few days Heath and Wisey have given me a hand with rebuilding the carby that was leaking. Took it all apart cleaned up everything, unblocked all the jets and replaced all the gaskets.

After

I have put it back into the car, as well as replaced some fuel hoses, fuel filter, oil filter, oil change, new spark plugs, and managed to get the engine started! Although it does run very rough, so much so that tuning the idle-mixture has no effect whatsoever. Think it may be an ignition problem, and by looking at the dizzy, its an electric aftermarket one, which is looking pretty crappy.

Thinking may just take this aftermarket one out and replace it with a 240z e12-80 electronic dizzy, ones used in the zeds and r30s, so trying to hunt one down. Anyone know of any good places to look? Found one of ebay, but a bit over priced, and been through a few of the aussie zed forums but not much around.

Anyway big thanks to Wisey and Heath, one step closer to getting it on the road

Mate i've got a complete pertronix kit with a new 40,000v coil sitting here if you want it -accidentally bought two of them from the states a while back lol. should fit in your dizzy no problems, pretty sure all the L24/26/28 points dizzies were the same.

The other one is now in my 260C and it's a great bit of gear - replaces the points setup with a maintenance-free magnetic sensor and the brand new coil obviously helps things a bit too. let me know if you want it and I'll help you wire it up one weekend if you're in melbourne. pretty simple bit of gear.

just looking at that setup it's a bit weird - four chopper plates going through a sensor to time the dwell, why isn't there six? I don't know much about distributors but that looks a bit off somehow.

yeah i can see the two missing tines - WTF has happened there? I think that may explain why your engine is only running on four cylinders mate!

I can drop down to see you guys this weekend - saturday arvo perhaps. I think I can remember how to wire this up although it's been a while. Something about removing or not removing ballast resistors - I'll have to read the instructions again. Whole kit cost me 200 delivered but you can have it all for 120 if you want
