Here's the old A12, that on Friday the 1st of Feb that spat the dummy and dropped all its oil out the breather...................
Empty engine bay..............
Now that wouldnt have been a bad thing, if and only if I hadnt had just blown the gearbox in the Truck(the daily), which meant I had no vehicle to get to work!!!!!
So I had an A14 that I was slowly rebuilding on the engine stand, which now had the fast rebuild, but that didnt all go to plan............. So after spending all night(4am I got to bed) on the Friday finishing off the A14. Getting up at 9am on the Saturday morning to remove the old A12, get a few odds and sods from repco. Spent the rest of the day tiding up the A14 and getting ready to put it in the hole. Got it in and thought sweet, done!!! But oh no....... this little swap wasnt finished with me yet. In my haste to rebuild the A14, I some how managed to much up the timing and while cranking it over, noticed something wasnt right........ the timing was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out and I bent all the push rods and maybe some of the valves, so I whip off the head, took out the bent rods, found another A14/A15 head put that on reset the tappets, new head gasket etc..... and finally on Sunday it fired up. It made it to work on Monday(50km round trip). Was a good test drive!!
Lots of other little niggles held me up alone the way, but all in all was a bloody good learning curve for me. Here's the pictures of the A14 in the hole............
I also finished the rebuild on the dogleg 5 speed and put that in as well. She is about to get her biggest test so far, as there is a DOCNZ cruise on tomorrow. I will be giving her a good thrashing.
