I have about 7 alternators, all with bad diodes. (I know it's not the brushes. When the ECU gets AC, all kinds of dummy lights come on!) Does anyone know how one can go about replacing the diodes with NEW ones, because I'm getting sick of replacing my alternator with another 500,000km old unit every six months.

Now, with that request over, I'm just going to VENT about being STRANDED in FRANKSTON LAST NIGHT BECAUSE OF CRAP BATTERY CONNECTIONS UNABLE TO SUPPLY ENOUGH CURRENT TO KEEP THE ENGINE RUNNING WITHOUT AN ALTERNATOR.

Always buy quality connectors.

A friend just informed me that the 6 diodes would probably cost $40 each.

So that's the end of that.

The 'spensive ones I was quoted? I dunno exactly. Over spec, probably 100 amp or something ridiculous.

Do you mean buying them individually? I thought they were sealed in a plastic pack, or are they 'exposed' and wired inside the casing?
Maybe i'm thinking of the voltage reg?

Do you just need a bridge rectifier? I have access to 420V, 50A bridge rectifiers, I cant remember the price but I recall they are under $10. You say you need 6 diodes though - what is the output of an alternator before the rectifier?

I said 6 diodes because I *think* these alts are 3 phase, but I'm not actually sure. I was just trying to gauge how doable this is...

I've been told they can be replaced individually, just not how, or what kind of diodes to use, etc...

I need a functioning alternator, so I'm open to any ideas you guys have.

Convert to Bosch IR. Simple and reliable
