My mates brother once made a shaped rear parcel shelf for a pair of 6x9's. I can't remember how he got the shape, but it was filled with Selley's Space Invader. Looked a treat with some material over the top and pretty light as well.

Fibreglass cant be that dangerous, i just installed an unpaded fibreglass dash into a new Hummer Limo.... Canbera O.K.ed the procedure no sweat!
Also i have never seen modern fibreglass shatter into shards of lethal size.

Light guage glass with a mild resin would be safe enough for a race car dash. As said earlier the driver is restrained in the harness plus they are covered head to toe in prodective wear.... Actually aren't top quility helmet made of fibreglass.
The glass should crumple on impact.
If shards are still a concern. vinyll wrap the dash.

Still an ali dash would be the better choice.

Yes, some helmets are made from fibre-glass. But they have a heap of padding on the inside dude!

Basically fibre glass is sharp when it fractures, and you can cut yourself on it when you hit it.
The Fire retardant they put into helmets is not generally available to the general public unless they ask for it, and therefore i would assume most of the back yard fibre glass is self sustaining flammable.

Perhaps use this method by making a layered MDF negative, cut and sand, then fill with space invaders? I've done door speaker pods this way with some success.
