Hi all,

Ive finally decide to upgrade the FJ to e85 and get that extra bit of power out the Datsun. Im currently in the process of sorting out my fuel setup and wanted to know what people thoughts are. Im planning to use an eflex sensor as I only want to use e85 for the track and 98 for normal driving.

do I need to upgrade to a fuel cell to accommodate for the e85, or will my current tank be ok? if so what precautions are needed. I have no problem in upgrading to a fuel cell however if I can utilize my current tank, why wouldn't I. the 610 has close to 60L tank already.

I planning on running a surge tank with a walbro gsl392 lift pump and 2x bosch 044 for supply, teflon braided lines all round, if I use my current tank, However if I do upgrade to a fuel cell do I need to use a surge tank? Many fuel cells on the market have a sump with the foam baffle... I know this will be ok for drag racing as the fuel will move towards the rear of the tank which is where the outlets are, but will it be ok for cornering?

The standard tank will be fine with e85

You could always do similar to my fuel tank and attach a sump to the standard tank. I used a bit of 4" exhaust pipe.
You need to make sure the return line feeds back into the sump

It might be worth going to the Walbro E85 400lph compatible pump. When I went to E85 on my S14 I upgraded my pump to one of these which was really only for extra precaution as I needed to buy a new pump anyway. When I'm all up and running I'll most likely go to pump E85, as turbos bloody love the stuff...... And so do tuners!!!!

Im running E85 as well with the standard y fuel tank no dramas so far. Just make sure you give it a really good clean before fitting as E85 will strip whatever crap is in the bottom of the tank quckly also use 100 micron washable stainless filters.

Azzdat16 I will definitely look at that Walbro pump, I didnt realize they made one 400 lph. Whats the model no. of it?

trb012 is there any special agent that u used to clean the tank with or something that will do the job quickly?? On an episode of "Muscle Car" they went through the process of cleaning out an old tank but I didnt note down the cleaning agent they used. They poured it into the tank and then sealed the holes and whooshed it around and left it for a couple of hours. it must of been something with some oonf because they emphasised the point of cleaning out the cleaning agent lol. Any ideas ?

No didn't use any special cleaners mate just hot soapy water and then swished a bit of metho around in the tank it was quite clean to begin with but. The other thing I did was change the fuel filters after it had been running for a few hours and then I changed them again after the initial tune haven't touched them since. But I do plan to change/wash them every year for piece of mind I also run the vp fuels methanol additive which helps it stop from drying out injector seals,hoses etc

Not sure where you are located but i had all my Parts that i wasnt confident installing such as E85 pump, injectors, cams, afm, etc installed by Donny at Forced Motorworx in Dandenong. He is an SR20 Guru. Then i sent it off to Trent at Chequered to get everything tuned. He is the man when it comes to tuning capabilities, and a top bloke to boot!!
