best way is as one of the above posts with a drill, if you cant do that, fill the pump with grease (pack it into the spaces), fill the filter with oil then screw it on, fill the sump, turn it over without spark plugs for a few seconds, then install plugs, start up and watch oil gauge carefully.

Just wheel bearing grease or vas? Is It ok to leave it in the oil til next change or 500 km?

Oh thanks for all tips and help guys. Reading manual is fine but I learn from doing so watching It advice with these things brings It all together easier.

Engine timed spot on. 0tdc and links I have marked line up after manual turnover by hand.
Will finish prepping flywheel and then ready to bolt in.

bearing grease is preferable...vas turns to liquid pretty quick. Its ok to leave in the oil for a while, ive done a couple of V8s and a L series like this in the past, works pretty good.

I use vas as it has no harmful additives in a new engine. Use it on auto trans' as well.
I mix it about 60/40 with engine oil. Crank engine with no plugs & rocker cover removed.
Wait for the oil to flow out the camshaft lube holes.
Even tho the filter is upside down you will still need to fill it.
If you have the right filter, the anti drain will hold most of the oil.
