Today I started a rebuild of my L20 from my Ausy spec 1978 200B (810) that I'm planning on fitting into my UK spec 1400

the start :)

Not actually to bad for a 37 year old engine It's done about 40K miles

and completely stripped, cleaning in progress

Then I attacked the inside with a Die grinder

Next i'll need to take it to get the block machined to fit the new over sized pistons

looking to build a god street engine with the odd track use.

the pistons are (I think L18) 1mm over size so do have a small dish,
I have a adjustable sprocket, new timing gear, shells and mains, high flow oil pump.

Now the interesting part
I have 3 cylinder heads
A87
w53
U67

will take some measurements and hopefully with some help the best head can be fitted
Remember in the UK we have 95,97 and 99 ron pump gas :)

The reasons your pistons are so clean, is because the cylinders have had water in them.

I don't know much about these things but is there a reason you're die-grinding the inside of the block? Is it just for cleaning purposes or something more?

the head gasket was replaced years ago and I did a de coke of the engine then, but it had done close to 10k before the engine was removed and dry stored.

removing excess metal left over by casting

With regards to the heads, go with the a87 if it's in good nick. This will give a good compression ratio even with the dished pistons. Give it a good port if you want a bit more power.

Managed to get the dipstick pipe off the L14 (from 510) and fitted to L20B. Also got the sump and pickup pipe (its in cleaner at the moment)
