Sale on hold I can keep it for a little longer. if all goes well i can keep it.

Picked this 1972 1600 up a few months back out of the local paper. Was by no means searching for a 16 but it came up and was to good to pass up. I have always loved the 16s and always wanted one (especially a wagon).

I got it with a fresh respray, and a non running L20 auto.

Had some issues with the flexplate fouling block when trying to turning it over. So i had to pull the trans anyway and had a 5 speed there and some of the parts needed for the conversion so that is underway. Just need a clutch master, slave an lines to finish off then i can take it for my first ride in a 16 :D

Plans are just to lower it, Get some matching 13" steelies, and a venetian. GP Spec

Cheers for the comments

Got her fired up last night, had some issues with stiff rear wheels but got that sorted :) So i just about have everything ready for lift off, clutch lines and tailshaft sorted! need to bleed the brakes then away we go.

After this hopefully ill find out nothing else is needed (highly unlikey)

Anybody know a good place to get door rubbers from? and what do you call the felt glass runs in is it a bailey channel?

Well got the flat tops running only to find them leaking fuel everywhere... so further inspection resulted in finding two sunk floats :(

Any body know where to get new ones for flat tops let us know

Nissan still stock them (they did 12 months ago anyway) - they're an updated plastic float in a little metal "cage". Just ask for 180B SSS SU floats, or if I remember tonight I'll get the part number off the packet for the spare one I have in my "raceday" spares kit.

$30 - $40 each from memory ?

well got it out of the shed yesterday so thought id get some snaps! got the flat tops going thanks to some new floats, still needs attention, its to responsive and doesnt drop off high revs after after acceleration. needs a bit of fine tuning all round but stoked to take it for a spin. the L20 seems to have plenty of go for such a little car :)

the pic of the enginehouse brings back memories. My dad and grandma both used to live in moonta mines near the skimpheaps.
The dirt roads were a blast to rally drive on back 15years ago.
Havent been up there in a while now...

The 1600 is looking great. Keep up the good work!

I have just been tinkering lately hooked up the choke to one of the carbs, i figured half a choke is better than none but please advise if this is wrong. Just gotta sort out the exhuast, it is getting louder there is a massive hole in the exhuast pipe that connects to the stock 16 manifold so gotta source one of them or get extractors its is just the lack of dollars at, :/

Also need some advice is the linkage circled below on to much of a downwards angle? im am getting a to much throttle reponse? im using ATF in the carb dampners.

Hey there I know it's a been a while but just wondering what you did to straighten the throttle linkage.
I too have this problem due to L20 motor, i guess i need to fab up another bracket to the firewall.
If you or anyone else has already done it, please post a pic to give me something to copy.

In regards to oil in the piston dampers, I have used both ATF and sewing machine oil and both seem to work well.

Cheers
Mick
