does anyone know if an engineer will approve having the engine conversion number stamped on this plate?

they should approve it, as long as the aus compliance plate is not modified

I love being the Guinea Pig at testing new Datsun products out on eGay.

I got my plate today. The stamping was very poor, number 6's looked like C's, number 4's looked a mini triangle (4 without the tails), you could only see each numeral if turned on it's side facing the light. However, the plate and design was identical to factory.

i sent them a message to have another one stamped harder, apparently a new one is on it's way. see how we go second time.

Codes engine and chassis numbers might look nicer if done by an engraver.
I have 2 plates. One from a Canadian supplier and one from Australian supplier. The Canadian is more accurate. The text on the Australian plate is too small and wrong fonts. Good original artwork for the Datsun plate can be found at the front of an old parts book.

I had some replica aluminium plates made up for my Fairlady Roadster.

They turned out great but I could only afford to get one of each.

However, I have had the unstamped plates scanned and printed on self adhesive vinyl.

Worked out great!

Also, a set of number and letter punches is not expensive so you could stamp your own

I have a set of number punches, i feel i would be too retarded to keep all digits in a straight line

Well, if you look at the original plates, the factory weren't that particular.
The trick is to clamp a straight edge over the plate then slide the punches up to that so the characters all line up.
