sorry if this is a noob question but can someone tell me what the differences are between the 1600 and 510?

A Datsun 1600 is a Datsun 510. The body code is 510 or p510. I believe the p stands for 1.6L engine. Where as a h510 found overseas has a 1.8L engine. There are several other letters that can be put in the body code like K for coupe and L for LHD.
In the usa they dont call them 1600 they call them 510's.

calling it a 510 will avoid confusion between the 1600 510 and the 1600 fairlady. if you google datsun 1600 you will find stuff for fairlady roadsters as well as 510's

But if someone tells me they have a 510 I want to kick them in the nuts.

.............so what do you call a 520, 620 or 720? and all the other models for that matter? is a bluebird a 910 or a 510?

only reason it's on there is because i think it looks better than a guard badge on the boot. Plus already having a D_A_T_S_U_N badge on the beaver, the number plate DATO then having another Datsun badge on the boot, would be a bit too much.

they have different names in different markets, in Australia they were actually called a Datsun 1600 but in Japan they were called a Datsun Bluebird & in America the name of the car was simply a Datsun 510.
