I'm swapping my R160 over to a R180. I've opened up the 160 and taken out the diff carrier. I've gone through bolts and screwdrivers trying to get the pin out that holds the large cross shaft. Any hints on how to get this **** out???

Sorry if I read your description wrong but you say your swapping to an r180 from an r160? You don't need to disassemble the old diff at all, unless you got a subi r180 then you need to swap the flange at the front input, not a problem if it was a datsun sorced diff. As long as you have the stub shafts to bolt up to the 1600 half shafts it will bolt up where the r160 came from.
To answer your question on how to remove the roll pin to disassemble the spider gears, get a good pin punch and a hammer and drive it out.

The 160 has 4 bolt uni shafts , the 180 is the splined cv set up. I'm trying to change out the thread buttons so i can use the 4 bolt on the 180.. Cheers
