I'm trying to get a wire to power my headunit (in my 260C) that switches on in ACC and ON/START. According to the wiring diagram, the Blue wire in the loom (that goes through the fuse box, very convenient) should do that job. But it seems to be stuck on at 12V.

What Datsuns are these ignition switches in and have you ever heard of them stuffing up? I'm getting 12V through the wire non-stop. The ignition still turns on and off (obviously because the car works okay, but it doesn't have any accessories that I've had to test).

Why can't you use the factory wires from the original head unit? i Usually just splice into them.

The original head unit is an AM radio that I've never managed to get working, but it doesn't matter where I connect the wires to; if the ignition switch is faulty, the headunit will only be on when the ignition is on, or all the time. It should work in ACC and ON

Ok, from memory the wires on your head unit should have:
Yellow = Constant 12V+ve
Red = Acc
Black = ground/earth -ve

Don't use the wires from the ignition barrel, find something from the fusebox. Hope that helps :/

Man, I hate to be rude but what you're saying is completely missing the point.

I can find twenty different points of access to the blue wire (the 'accessory' wire in the Datsun loom) which the red wire of the headunit is supposed to hook up to, all after the fusebox. But that wire has 12V all the time and please tell me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's supposed to have any power when the key is in the off position. I suck arse with electrics but I'm trying hard to learn.

I would love to know whether these ignition barrels are the same as any other Datsuns, and whether I can borrow another one to try or buy another one.

Are you saying that the acc never turn off?

There is a constant 12v behind the dash, hook your memory to the constant 12v and the switch wire to the acc easy peasy

sure you haven't got the wrong wire, for me blue is constant 12v and blue with white stripe is acc, Try turning on your wipers with the car off?

Just put it back together to do that test and now it's working as an accessory wire, switching off etc. The wipers are only working when the key ain't off, and the wire that I selected to be the full-time power supply to the headunit is now switching off too. Either me and my friend were tripping balls, or my ignition switch is inconsistent.
