just thought id finally post a thread about my 1000. i picked it up for 1000 bucks, no motor or gearbox, has a fair straight body considering. someone has started to do some work on it already but im going to re-do it as i dont know how dodgey they did it, has a bit of rust in the sill panels on the inside, all around the petrol tank, passenger floor and a tiny bit in the doors.

my plans for it is to cut the rust out and reinforce the inside sill panels with some 50x25x3mm rhs, hopefully put an sr20det or a a15 thats had a sh*t load of work and turbo lol, disc brake upgrade all round and a hilux diff.

paint choice that im thinking is a silver green colour that i have sitting in the shed.

im also going to do a custom trimmed interior, colour scheme will be charcoal grey carpet, black and grey trim on the seats, make up my own boot lining to make it look neat, fabricate a new glove box out of 1mm sheet because the stock one has been water damaged. thats all i can think of for now but when ive remembered what else im going to do ill keep you posted

heres some pics of what ive got to do.

Nice rig. I remember this one for sale, took a while to sell though.

You might want to check out datsun1200.com there are a heap of us 1000 owners over there.

As for the SR, it's doable but would most likely make the front end very heavy and somewhat problematic with handling.

Go the 'big block' A15 and work it as a good performing NA street engine. Then work it more later on. There is a bloke building a 1.8 A15 and he might even be going bigger than that still......that sort of capacity and torque will get this flying along.

An A14 is legal in a 1000 by SA standards so the A14 would be a good start, straight motor swap form out of TransportSA.

I run a little A12 in my B10 worked pretty hard and it pulls brilliantly.

Good work on putting this little gem back on the road.

A SR20 won't fit it is to tall. A CA18 maybe just. A rotor would fit for sure. Or go a mild A15. These cars weight nothing so any upgrade is going to be heaps of fun.

cheers for that guys.. by the sounds of it ill most probably go the A15 then. itll be used as a weekender and possibly the occasional drift and burnout comp.

i might just look on there then. will probably be easier to find parts??

i did a bit of work on it last night after work. i started taking the paint off the rad support panel and the part under the front window where the wipers mount. also did the sill panel on the passenger side (got photos of that and the dodgey work someone did), also under the tail lights. i did these parts because i saw bubbles of rust so wanted to see how bad it was. im pretty sure that these pics will show you how dodgey the person was.

heres the front bit where i cleaned the paint off.. im getting there slowly.

this is where the dodgeyness begins, the big rectangle hole was full of bog foam and a thin sheet of steel (shown in next pic)

the bog in this pic is about 8mm thick. they must of thought it was a great idea to bog up a huge dent rather than beating it out

just wondering on the top and bottom corners of the rear window there was metal body filler in the indented part and some crappy tack welds. is that from factory??

just a quick update. i havent realli been able to do much work on it lately but i have done a tiny bit. ive got nearly all the paint stripped from the engine bay an chucked a quick coat of etch primer on it and thats about it.

i also pulled the front cross member out last night, and made a trolley thing so i can still move it around. heres a couple pics of it.

Great project. Love these coupes. Best thing you can do is something like Lag_510 and fuel inject an A15.
Rotor or motorbike motor would be good too!
Regardless, you gotta make sure you keep it light. Even with an A12, these things fly. Upgrade the brakes too, and it will be a ball tearer.
