Was checking out this site: http://www.datsunrestore.com/photo2.html ......and noticed the U.S. tail lights have no indicators in them??WTF??
I'm going to need a new pair of lenses for my 1600 wagon soon, and was thinking if I wired the indicators into the lower clear lens part, and used orange bulbs, it might look pretty tidy having less of a multi-coloured back end.
But then that leaves the problem of no reverse lights I guess........ :?

What do you guys reckon??

The US or North American tail lights used a red lens for the indicators.

The Euro or non-North American market had the amber lens fitted.

An amber globe in a clear lens is all the rage in modern cars, not sure if it would be legal in yours though.
You could always hang after market reverse lamps under the bumper :)

Wow Nissanman, is there anything you don't have a picture of?

AS Nissanman said, most old yank cars had red indicators. I've seen lots of old Chevs and Cadillacs with the rear/brake light and the indicator as one single unit, so when the car is braking and indicating, only one light is operating as a brake light, and the other is the indicator. I don't know if these would be legal on a Datsun, but you could use your idea with the reversing lights, or even mount an aftermarket indicator under the bumper. You can get some pretty retro ones from eBay, they're mainly marketed for hotrods or Harleys, but no reason why they can't go on a Datsun.

Not 100% legal though :( If the car was ADM then the ADR's stipulate you must use amber turning signals. If it is USDM then you are allowed to run the Brake/turn signal combo.

Even new cars like Camrys and sh*t have red indicators over there. Really quite stupid, it can be harder to tell what the driver ahead is doing, particularly if one brake light is out.

the wagoon are lenses only. I dont know if there is a extra bulb used or not as in the states 1157 covers this and yellow was not a mainstay for rear turnsignals. But I know the turn signal switch is a 6 pin compare to a sedan 4 pin switch

the 510 fronts need to 2 bulb housing for the euro to be exact.otherwise in the states we had only single 1157 dual element bulbs. all yellow lenses. rear euro /usa spec are ok to swap

I think even the old holdens shared some of there lights. Not sure exact models but im sure ive seen it. And like green200b said the old caddys have it a mate of mine had 1956 fleetwood and when he had to replace the left rear lense i noticed it. They had to be replaced reguarly because to fill up petrol you pressed the reflector and the light assembly popped up and the filler was there and when you spilt some it messed the lenses up.
