Well my car is almost ready to head off for blasting and panel beating and i was going to add rear seat belts. Some may think this is a bad idea because it never came with them and doesn't need them legally but i have a young boy and need to hold his car seat in somehow and plus id rather stop and rear seat passengers hitting me in the head if the worst happens

So i was wondering what others have used to do this job. Is there a make or model of car i should look out for to raid the rear seat belts out of to fit into my 140J?

Im really wishing i drilled the holes etc before i stripped the car as not im going to have to put the rear seat back in to get everything to line up. (the car is on it side with not really any room to roll it back over (i guess i could tidy the shed if i have to)).

I need to obtain the seat belts so i can drill the holes for fitting so then i can weld in the reinforcing patches and any nuts for the bolts to fit into etc.

Well any help and ideas would be most appreciated.

Thanks
Brett

I'd say use 180B seatbelts, if you can get any. Since the 140J and the 180B were around in about the same years. I suppose it doesn't matter too much what you use though.

Yea for sure i was just hoping that some one on here would know of a car that had the right style rear seat belts ideally i would like to use retractable seat belts for the side to and any old lap belt for the center.

Yip as i turns out the holes were already there that makes me and my brother inlaw very very happy as it saves us a lot of welding and other work needed to fit them.

I would really like to go to retractable seat belts if possible.
So if any one knows of any belts where the retracting spool unit thing mounts to the C pillar on the side of the car rather than that just being a pivot point and it mounting lower down etc.

Thanks
Brett

i have never came across a belt that has a retractor at that degree and angle, and which is not huge and bulky so you end up banging your head against the reel.

if you want belts in the back go a klippan (thinks really hard) 6466 i think which are a 0/0 belt

mount these to the parcel shelf in the centre and buckle to the outside, otherwise you are limited to statics unless you want to be fancy and cut holes and mount them into the boot or carve out the foam of your rear seat so they come up the side of the seat and pivot

a 1600 would be difficult to fit them to the outside of the parcel shelf but could be done - the 1600 is pretty small

been years since i have seen a 1600 without the rear seat :?

http://www.autolivaftermarket.com/pr-genpurpose.htm

the 2nd one down mounts to the parcel shelf rather than the pillar

post pics of the parcel shelf and i can give you a few tips and tricks to get them in.

DONT use 2nd hand belts as it is illegal to sell 2nd hand belts

new ones are about $150 retail each - laps about $60

up to you at the end of the day but if its holding in your kid...

i'd know what i would choose, i've seen tests of an old belt with nicks breaking under loads of a typical 60kmh crash - very scary stuff

and sorry i re read what car you were putting it into :giggle:

ebay has all sorts of brand new generic retractable seat belts. I bought some for the front. They work well. Search under automotive, then whittle down the search to seat belts. They will work, the only problem i think you will have is mounting the shoulder piece bolt. It has to be at a correct angle, on the C pillar. Other wise in a accident you can do some serious chest injury.
