Well its be a long time but finally got back into having a working dado.

Some time ago a 120y coup came up for sale, single owner, very low mileage, all original and neat as a pin, some minor works required to body but nothing major. Next to no rust, next to, all dados came with inbuilt rust, bit like alfas.

Its travelled 41K, manual, goes very hard for 1.2, it topped out at 160 KPH at 6.7k rpm accordion to my GPS, yeah i know unheard of, however i am very surprised, not sure if its because the motor is so tight but the dam thing goes.

Interior is almost brand new, although cracked dash pad which will be repaired shortly.

Anyhow, just wanted to say hi and keep an eye out (hobart) the brand spanking patrol has been relegated to sitting in the driveway and this has become my daily, until the works begin.

Plans for it, simple, a few power tune ups, exhaust, intake carbies and cam. Suspension and brakes to be done, nothing mad a bit lower and better stopping power, wheels to be changed to something that has more width then height. Tint the windows and install a radio that is not AM.

I am looking for any 120Y parts anyone has lying around so PM me if you have anything, particularly any mags or wheels you might want to part with.

Very clean looking car, nice basis for a Grandpa spec. So what I think you should do is polish it up, & drive the wheels off it. Enjoy it for a bit before you start modifying it. So where too after that. A nice set of mags is the first thing, & 120y's have such lovely big wheel wells. Pity you can't seem to get 185/65x13's any more, perfect size for a 120Y on some 13 inch Hotwires or Jellybeans. You can also lower it slightly, but as it's a daily driver now, not too much . Enough to suggest the springs have sagged. It's surprising how well the A12 will take to a small cam, & a small DGV weber, extractors & an electronic ignition in the distributor. At the moment my Sunny wagon has an A12 in it, really should get around to fixing it's A15. With nothing more than a 28/30DGV, an electronic ignition in the dizzy & some extractors, it's more than able to keep up with traffic. the carby was found on Ebay, but is only the 2nd one Ive seen. So a 32/36 DGV or my preference a 32DGV would be great. I got one of these from a ford escort person in Tasmania off (again) Ebay. It was off a 1600 cc escort GT. Camtech or Tighe cams can supply a small cam with reground lifters for it, plus a set of valve springs to suit. Once this is all done, the car will be so good you'll be looking for an overdrive 5 speed. The only downside is the cost, with the starting price of around a $1000. But, if you're only using the car around town, it's not necessary. These bolt in with the only problem being the gearbox crossmember, where the standard cross member wont line up with the body mounts. Various plates & mounts have been made by owners. I've used the crossmember from a Sunny 5 speed with redrilled holes. Not too much you need to do after this.
I can only hope it's got a heated rear windscreen. They're a real bastard at misting up as soon as you get in the car, to the extent that when I had the 120Y coupe, I'd open the rear hatch first, then start the car, then clean the inside of the rear screen with a damp shammy, so I could see out the back of it. Cracking the flip out windows kept enough air flow on the screen to keep it clear. Something I'm sure youre going to need in sun drenched Hobart.
