Hi Guys,

well got a suprising phone call from my mechanic friend the other night asking for me to come over to his place o measure up a car he has to stick graphics on, and to my surprise he bought me a DATTO! as we were talking about me building another fast street car a couple weeks prior.

so this is her,
Basically i think its a 1968? Datsun 1000 4 door Column shift auto :D
body is extremely straight and has minimal to no rust, i think the previous owner attacked most of it as i can see a few repairs in the floor that are done quite well.

has re trimmed white leather seats! :D
all spares ar in the boot chrome strips, lights, interior bits and pieces tail shaft etc only things missing is engine and gearbox.

so now this is the hard part! what to slap into the engine bay?
i have spent hours trolling the interwebs on conversions that have been done and that are road legal here in QLD.

my mechanic has an ex customers hillclimb 260rwkw CA16det engine sitting here all complete.

Andrew AKA Fonz

anything over 1985cc is not allowed in QLD 12a is rated at 2400cc
An L16 can fit with side marine mechanical waterpump and custom sump
(L20 crank fits with L16 rods & Z20E pistons if you line bore the L16 block
and bore to 85mm (2mm over) or 3mm over for +1mm 86mm Z20E slugs.
Source a Z18et top end but use intercooler and t28bb turbo and L16
is on the side of your block but 2LT turbo & easy 5 speed :cheers

hahaha d!
you successfully just confused the crap out of me just then! wouldnt it just be easier to fit a ca18det + box and go to a wreckers and buy a dead ca16de for the engine number to use on the ca18det? like i said i have a complete ca18det here just need a wiring loom. going to sus out the front disk brakes this week.

enlargement of an L16 is very different to re-stamping ;)
Plus a bonus is no pollution gear :)

we have decided to go ca16det :) and engine is on its way :P do you recommend a diff thats the simplest to adapt to the 1000 rear end? i have been told to use a 2wd 5 stud hilux rear diff? as we are going to use BA falcon xr6 turbo front brakes up front.

Could also have gone for a sleeved 85mm ca16det bottom end using Honda pistons
that would guarantee engineering and more capacity. Do you know what the ca18det
you are getting has or any specs you might have?
Well xr6 brakes! wow would like to see that! but sounds heavy with 5 stud setup.
You can do a silvia front setup and shortened Kia Sportage twin cam rear end w/LSD.
Not all Sportages have an LSD its an option but easy to find and 7.5 inch diff way
bigger than needed for such little weight and same size as rotary rx7 s3 rear ends
so total weight 800kg is about 300-500kg less than Mazda rx7 s3 or mx5 etc.

yeah could of gone the ca16 but found a cheap ca18det that is complete with t28 bb turbo and nistune ecu :d made 225rwkw before being removed to make way for a rb25/30 so cant complain
on the hunt for a bare ca16de block to re stamp the ca18det :) and yes xr6 rotors will be a bit of a challenge but my fabricator recons we can work something out. i will be postin progress pics and a full build thread once we start going with it. engine arrives this saturday so getting ready for some greasy hands and late nights. we want to debut it at 2013 brisbane jamboree as well as his ca18det 1200 ute :)

hey guys, been a while since i posted pics so here are a couple from yesterday.
fitted my xr6 intercooler and made sure it clears the grill and beaver panel. also got a new exhaust manifold as the other one sat too high.

waiting my my shortened axels to come back from being re splined then diff will be going in.
sort out my tailshaft and it will be able to start, run and drive :)
