Hi all,
Long time listener first time caller.
I think the last time I posted on Ozdat it was a mailing list and forums were a thing of the distant future.
Im making the switch from Datnet to here as there appears to be at least 5 people still alive here.
Since Facebook came along I have been the only person posting on Datnet and ide like to keep a build thread alive.
I couldn't work out how to actually copy the thread across so here is a link of where its up to.

Welcome mate, welcome!

There arent a lot of us left on Ozdat anymore however its a fantastic source of info. Read through your build (fantastic car what a beast), you can copy it over manually however it would take a bit of time.

Are you still selling it or decided to hold onto it?

Cheers,

Trent

Hey Andrew, have noticed the loss of people also mate but i'm trying to get more involved back on Ozdat again. Have been keeping an eye on your car on FB also.
I'm keen to see what's happening next with it! Looking forward to more stories and pics!
Cheers,
Ross

Been following this car for a while. Quick thing too.
What is the next batch of updates you are going to get stuck into?

Hi guys,
Yeah it was only for sale to see if anyone wanted to buy it and keep it regoed.
I wasn't expecting any bites as its a shitbox.
As a track only car there was nothing on it that I wanted to keep, and would be way more $$ effective to sell it and start again, so ill just slowly morph it to something like I want it.
In the short term its just going to be a case of driving it and fixing it if it breaks.

So time for an update then.
Since last post before xmas I have replaced all but the drivers door and front screen with Lexan.
That's about it for mods.
I entered my first ever race event at the end of Jan.
MRA at Wakefield.
Its a 4 round series.
I entered SuperTT which is pretty much no rules run what you got.
Based on last years events I thought ide be towards the pointy end ~5th maybe on lap times.
I qualified in 2nd with 3 secs slower than PB which I was stoked about.
1st race it would seem I didn't know how the start lights worked and dropped to 6th or 7th then made it back to 5th.
I was driving like a total pussy as can be seen in the video.
Before race 2 the white EVO driver came up to me and gave me a cup of cement and told me to just get in there.
2nd race I started in 5th and made it up to 2nd before engine failure with 2 turns to go on the last lap.
Damn. But 10 years of DIY engine build/tune im pretty chuffed it lasted this long.
Initially I thought it was a snapped timing belt.
It turns out yes it was along with snapped inlet cam, scoured head and crank @ woodruff key groove.
So out came engine, strip (except pistons), new crank, head and cam.
Its all back together and ive got tomorrow off to put it back in the car.
Next event is MRA round 2 on a sat then NSW supersprint round 2 on the Sunday.
I miss round 1 SS as im getting married and the misses probably wont like it if im late and arrive in a race suit...

I thoroughly enjoyed watching that mate! Sucks about the engine. But i guess that's racing!
At one point on your first race I thought you were going to come unstuck, looked like it plucked itself sideways for a while.
It surprises me how much grip it has even on a wet track!

Hey Ross.
Yeah that was a decent slide. It often doesn't really show on the video but its pretty common.
Although there were a few spots of rain it wasn't wet and it was full dry grip.
Hopefully its all still working now.
Not being registered anymore I can't do any testing which sucks.

So you've got the motor all fixed up and back together? When do you suspect that you'll get back out on the track?

Mr peters welcome aboard! It's definitely not what it used to be with Facebook around now but Ozdat still has a pulse.

Good to see you're still on the diy bandwagon I remember coming onto the main straight at the island and being amazed at the grunt for the ca!

Keep the updates coming as they happen :D

Post subject:  Re: Andrew Peters' 510 Pseudo Sports Sedan

So since last update the engine went back in the car and managed 1/2 a lap before sipnning a bearing on #4.
So again engine out and stripped.
I managed to put the centre main bearing in upside down so no oil into the crank there, weird #4 was the rod bearing that let go.
Anyway crank and rod were **** so new crank again and new rod and back together.
I missed round 2 MRA.
It all went back together and into the car the Wednesday before MRA round 3.
Pressed start and it was only running on 3.
Quick diagnosis found 0 comp in #1.
Re bled all the lifters and all good.
Made it to round 3 MRA video below.
Generally the car behaved worse than it ever has. Maybe temp related as it was max 6degC.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZsaMubbalY

Copped a nice hit in the rear from a civic which on the video shows pretty poor form.
DNF last race and fucken so pissed off.
Rolled off the end of the strait to get out of the way so no red flag and smashed through a ditch and smashed off and bent the front swaybar.
Over the past 6 months I have been researching decent improvements now that its not registered.
Ultimately that means all new suspension and an engine conversion.
Once all that is done there will be nothing but the shell remaining from the current setup so...

I saw you selling it, whats the deal Mr Peters? Got yourself another shell that you're looking at, or are you going a completely different direction? I just wonder why you want to sell that shell and start over? isn't it already a good base?

Hey Ross,
By the time I change what I want to change there will be absolutely nothing left of this as it is now.
Seems like such a waste so ide rather see it stay together.
No one will buy it though so ultimately I will strip it.

So general plan for the build v2 is graft fd rx7 front and rear suspension in an attempt at cheap double wishbone.
Thoughts?

I assume this would be onto a 1600?

How about MX5 stuff ?

Just thinking it may be cheaper / easier to obtain than FD RX7.

Used a lot in clubman's (clubmen??)

Although (and I'm no expert on RX7's), maybe you get better brakes / diff / etc than you would with MX5 ??

I'm sure you're prepared, but there will be a heap of front end sheetmetal work - the chassis rails on my MX5 are a good 6-8 inches or more higher than on a 1600.
