Also tidying up all the wiring, got some really good non adhesive loom tape(sticks to it self when you wrap loom and doesnt stick to anything else or leave a slimey mess when you have to unroll a section.

You can also see the starter motor relay.

Just need to change all the connectors and the wiring will be done.
I've got all new connectors, all oem style.

i put the original carby back on the engine and needed a choke cable, i had a NOS choke cable buts its for a LHD 510, so i got a bike brake cable and silver soldered the two cables together to lengthen it the shrinked wrapped the two outer sleeves togehter.

since the old school accelerator linkages were hitting the brake booster and i also wanted to run a cable accelerator for the webers for the new engine i thought i put one on now.

really hard to see in this pic but theres two Lseries accelerator linkages bolted together then a cable type lever connected to them.

this setup is so light and smooth that it didnt even need a return spring, but i had to fit a small one anyway to give it a bit more feeling.

i had all the stuff for this just lying around, stoked.

back I December I got the car registered, passed pretty easy but I had to swap the brake booster with a stanza type one I had because it had a vacuum leak.

I haven't driven the car at all because ive been away for work a lot.

the l20b stroker is fully built but there was a heap of other things I wanted to before I installed it, like set up a sr20 5 speed box, Ive got a gilmer belt drive set up ready to go with the crank pulley machined to fit the gilmer pulley and it also uses a r31 skyline 60 amp alternator but need to set up and wire a electric thermo fan, I wanted to polish all the alloy, I had done the timing cover, dizzy and oil pump but I wanted to do fuel pump, rocker cover, inlet manifold, water pump, water inlets etc.. and I wanted to build a winged sump and also build a custom exhaust header. but I just don't have time to do any of this.

so I made the decision to drop the engine in with the bluey 5 speed, old pulleys and fan, old fuel pump, water pump, water inlets etc, and also with the original sump and exhaust manifold. so I can just get it running and driving like this then if I get a spare moment I can start to work on the other things.

so last weekend I dropped it in, put the number 1 cyl on tdc, bolted the dizzy on roughly firing number 1, bolted on the intake, got the new 48 dco webers out of the box, bolted them to the intake. cranked it with the plugs out and made sure I oil spurting out of the cam(with rocker cover off) to see I had oil pressure. then put the plugs in gave it a crank and it fired right up, timing not set properly webers not balanced or even jetted properly.
it obviously sounded a bit rough but seemed to hold a low steady idle, even with the 76 deg cam and 48mm webers.

that's basically where I ha to leave it. I wont be home for a few weeks now, but hoping I can get it running well enough myself to drive it when I get back.

Looking good!
Nothing sounds better than a cranky l series with webers.

Make sure you get a proper dyno tune

This is coming up a treat. Well done on the detail. Looks like you are doing a great job so far.
Also agree w Lampy. Theres something about the sound of a stroker L-series with 48's, ohh yeah!
Just inspired me to dig out some old rally vids right now...

heres a short clip.
probably idleing at about 800rpm, was playing around with the balance at the time i took the clip. sounds better when its bumped up a bit.
i keep it at 1000 rpm, but it will hold an idle even lower than in the clip. about exactly how i didnt think this engine would behave.

it also has an exhaust leak at the y pipe after the manifold

p.s yes all fuel lines have clamps on them now.
