My first 1600 cost less than this car! But yeah, how times change. I doubt the SX will ever be worth that much, they'll never be as popular as a 1600 plus all of my friends see it as a 200B with some funny stickers. I'd say they're rarer than an XY GT too. Out of cusiosity, what were 200Bs going for back in those days? I don't have any books for this car but I know my green one cost $5,950 brand new in 1980.

I bought my first 1600 in 1981, so 2nd hand 200B's were pretty much only a year or two old at the time. I suppose they wold have been only a grand or so less than the new price, so maybe $4000 - $5000 ??

My 1600 cost (very appropriately) $1600.

My old man traded his in not long after I learnt in it on a brand new 2.6l, top of the range Sigma "SE". By that time, the 200B was maybe 4 years or so old and already had rust in the bonnet and a few other spots even though it was garaged all its short life

This 200B has some surface rust on the bonnet but I don't think it has anything terminal yet. Having said that all Datsuns came with rust from factory. My green one has been a seaside dweller for pretty much all of its life as far as I can tell, so all things considered it was pretty rust-free. This one did have some rust when I got it but has more now as it has been parked outside and we are about a ten minute drive from the beach.....Interesting he got a Sigma, the 200B was the best-selling four-cylinder car until ousted by the Sigma.

Interesting the sorts of prices the cars were going for. I guess the SX would have cost a little more, maybe $6,200 or something new? I'm not sure if mine would have cost anymore being yellow, but since it didn't have the SX mirrors maybe it evened out.

Auto electrics is a nasty business, and usually quite a pain in the arse... the problem is, cars seem to acquire faults from just sitting around, and no one really knows why....

1978 Stanza, undergoing track spec build.

This one has been sitting around, but also the engine bay at least has been re-wired. Everything is a different colour and there are wires all over the place. It may have been done properly and just look messy. Let's hope so....

probaly dont want to here this but,
When i was 14,I used to work at the wreckers in nambour,they had 3 or 4 200b sx in there being wrecked,still were mostly complete when they would of got crushed,I notice spoilers on a couple.
but back then i didnt really know anything on datsuns,was a holden man back then

from memory there was a few blue ones and 1 white

i got laughed at when i was 16 9 yrs ago just about when i asked for a sx spoiler and or grille for series 1 200bsx also got told i could of got a sr20 det conversion done for 3 g inc motor then budget style but was a mate in my network how times have changed

So on the weekend I removed the engine from the green 200B which, despite being rather down on power due mainly to an unhappy standard carbie, is still a strong and reliable little engine, so it seemed fitting to put it into the SX as I know it works well enough, despite leaking lots of oil.

After a quick clean and the fitting of the green 200B's extractors (which incidently came from this car originally I also fitted a replacement carbie, bolted up my SSS 5 speed and then lowered the whole thing into the car. All in all it was a fairly hassle-free job. Except for the rain.





It is only held in by the engine mounts at the moment but when it stops raining I'll bolt everything up underneath, connect everything necessary, find a battery and maybe, just maybe, this car will move under its own steam after years of not doing so.
