So i did some work on the car, patched the rust in the bonnet, rego today.
Base price will now be $2500 not $2000 due to it having a stack of rego on it now!

So after not doing anything on the car for a while (except driving it!) i've started to tackle some of the rust coming out in it.
The first part I'm going after is the rust that is coming through from the airbox/cabin intakey sort of area behind the bonnet, through the seam, into the engine bay. Sort of hard to describe but there are some pics below.
So i'm going to clean all the crap out of the seam area behind the bonnet (leaves, dirt etc), wire brush the rust in the engine bay back to bare metal and then go from there. Originally I was going to drill out some of the spot welds in the seam, split the seam apart and clean it out more, however that'd be quite difficult to do and looking around i wouldn't mind trying out rust bullet on it (despite it's cost) just to see how it goes. If it DOES work the way they say it does (has anyone tried it?) i should be able to coat the front and back sides of the seam, it should more or less neutralise the existing rust, then coat it again and it should seal it all in without having to split the seam apart to clean it. I'd probably coat the entire inside of the airboxey area just to be safe.
Any comments on that plan? I'm not sure the product will work as they say it will but it seems like a good place to test it at least!
And the pics:

That's a very common place for 200Bs to rust, although going by those photos your is worse than any of mine have ever been! Wire brush it and see, mine only ever had surface rust there.

Yeah I'll be hitting it with the wire brush soon, got the die grinder and a selection of brushes sitting on the car right now actually.

On a different note does anyone have issues with their rocker cover leaking? Mine leaks past the (new!) cork gasket like nobody's business!! :(

Got a new rocker cover gasket, just got to put it on now...

Also did some other stuff on the Datsun today, what I'm currently doing is cleaning out the front end of the car, removing any rust and the plan is to seal and spray it all.
So i previously took the vent off around the front of the windscreen to gain access to the plenum and remove all the leaves/dirt/crap that's accumulated in there and whatnot. Today I blasted out that area with the high pressure water gun, and removed the guards to clear out the drains on either side (the plenum drains more or less into the back of the guards).
Managed to clear alot of crap out of in there, so it'll be onto the rust next, luckily there isn't much there, if left it'd become a problem but for now it's just starting from the surface for the most part. I noticed that Datsun never seam sealed any of the car when it was new, so I'll probably seam seal every seal i can get to and wire brush while i'm at it. Oh yeah and I need to re spot weld one of the headlight brackets, they tend to pop apart every now and again. Pics below :).

Later 200Bs were seam-sealed, I've never had am early one that was though. Once you've cleaned your plenum out wave sure you clean out behind the guards too, the accumulate heaps of crap there.

Did that already, cleaned out all the drainage out of the plenum and etc.
One guard has a small bit of rust, i'll fix that, strip and repaint all the area behind the guards, and seam seal whatever i feel needs it before i put it back together. :)
