Also a question to all, with the R31 strut tower, I use the R31 shock absorber? Only askin because I've read that every thing else used is 1600 stuff but the very top part ( can't think of it's name right now) where the thrust bearing sits is too small for the thread to fit through on the shock absorber. Have i done something wrong?
Pedders sell an offset strut top (Commodore) that will fit the R31 shocker and 1600 strut tower...

Been a while so thought id let everyone know where im at. The interior is out the floor is freshly painted, both sills are new and rust free and the underbody is 95% complete.Ive only painted it up to the spare wheel tub so i can do a few more rust repairs.I lost a little bit of interest in the car while scraping off the old paint or body deadner off the underbody but after a few weeks had it sorted. Found by spraying turps or kero on it till it was dripping, leaving it for 5- 10 mins then getting a cheap wood chisel, the stuff came off pretty easily. Then hit it with a wire wheel :P NOTE: wear goggles and a cap!! . After it was all clean i gave it a coat of penetrol to keep moisture out and then hit it with C- GUARD solvent base ,white on the inside and black underneath. I'll get photos of them soon. Anyway I modded up a 200B front cross member :ohplease: (because i can't afford the Datsport kit :( ), rebuilt the R180 diff i picked up for free :D and painted it with POR 15,looks the goods.

Had a bit of an issue with the diff though, R180 with a K stamped on it. I read that they came with clip in stub axles so i went crazy tryin to find some to suit! Only to find out that after 25 phone calls to various parts of Australia, the other diff that i got for nothin had the right size stub axles in it So I went crazy again tryin to work out if i can work some magic to clip them in ! If that wasn't enough I looked in the diff where the stubs go in to find I CAN  BOLT THEM IN!!!! So after i calmed down I decided that it was time to bolt the cross members back in and put some wheels on it so i can roll it around. I've killed the grass at dads so i gottta move it, that's pretty much where im at, got the drivers side done, next passenger side!

I started stripping this side of the car down and filling the little dents then got side tracked so i sprayed it with black acrylic paint to stop moisture getting in, that's why it ain't white anymore. I've also taken out the front and rear screens so i can strip the paint. Next few weeks should be able to see a bit of paint go on then do some bodywork. Quick one to anyone who has modded a 200B crossmember to fit the 1600, which radius rods did you use because the ones i'm using out of a bluebird line up but are just a bit short. By that i mean they are long enough to go through where the bushes go but if i tighten them up they pull the LCA's forward a little too much i think. Would it be feasible to cut a thread the rest of the way along so at becomes a little more adjustable? I also had to take the calipers off to fit the wheels, wrong offset. If anyone knows of some cheap sh*t pintara rims or skyline rims with tyres in any cond :D .

Been doin a little work to the car and feel like i'm actually movin forward. Took ages doin the welding and rust repairs and still got heaps to do. Think I'll get some paint on it and take it somewhere to get the rar quaters welded in, don't really wanna chance it. Got the boot all stripped out and repainted, the body is back to bare metal thanks to the wonders of paint stripper, drill, scraper,3M disk and wire brush and I've cleaned with rainex just to protect it a bit better and to clean the surface rust.

The boot only had a couple of little rust holes so i cut them out and welded new pieces in. The body is nice and shiny and pretty dented up on the rear quarters and a couple of tiny dents on the roof. Now i know some people are a strong believer in primer then bog but I've gone the other way only because two of my family members are or were panel beaters :D .........but they don't wanna help

Now I've got a question in regard to the suspension, I've put it all back together and it seems to sit high, I know that there is nothing in it to weigh it down a bit but does this look normal? Can't remember if the wheels are 13 or 14inch.

The rear has LOW king springs with kyb struts and these aren't the wheels going on the car, am i bein stupid in worrying about it? Anyways here is a pic of some of my welding handy work it ain't fantastic but there's no more rust at least :D

has the car been jacked up in the air/wheels off the ground? Takes a few metres of rolling for things to settle down properly again.

Just an update of where I'm up to; car is now primed in 2 pac primer. The rust repair panels i was going to leave for a panel beater :roll: well i couldn't wait so i tacked them on myself :D . I also got this 3m glue and applicator gun to help with the rust repair sections, apparently the glue is stronger than a weld. I couldn't find any in Aus so got some from the US. :chaching: Little pricey too! Also won some front guards from ebay, looked the goods in the photo, apparently no cancer :evil: and to top it off the guards arrived looking a little more, let's say bent and twisted than they looked in the photo!!! DAMN COURIER COMPANY and no i didn't think to get insurance. But anyway i already vented and have begun to rectify the problem. Here are some pics;

So it's been ages since I've been on here but I've been workin 7 days a week to make up for the time I was off work. the car is now in 2pac primer. I've also bought a motor for it, an S14 SR20DET. Didn't think I wanted to go turbo but I had a little money stashed away and well HEY PRESTO.

i'm having issues fitting my engine (i think...)

a couple of quick questions, firstly which engine mounts should i use? the 200b ones or the s14 ones that came with the half cut... the reason i ask is because the s14 mounts seem to have the engine sitting too high.

Also how far back should the cross member be sitting, because when i turn the steering the drag link hits the gear box.

i have modded up my own 200b cross member but my measurements may be out.

if there is anyone local to me id love to see a 1600 with the sr20 in person to get a better idea of how i need and what i need to do this...

any help would be ace.

Wow been a while since my last post , don't feel I've achieved much either. I now live a good 40mins away from my car and have a kid with another on the way, so I'm lucky to get 1 day a month on the car. Anyway I bought some bits and pieces for the car which is still sitting in primer, I've had to repaint it a couple of times due to paint not adhering to the metal properly. Pretty pissed at that! But my modded xmember went to Baz, he laughed at it so I bought one from him. Got the gearbox xmember, clutch master, steering support, trans cover etc etc, Thanks Baz and Trace. Also got my new and pretty sexy gauges and couldn't wait to get them in, I've got a pic of these:

I've also been umming and arrghing about whether or not to install A/C in the car, think I might not. Too hard a task for the time I have to spend on the car. Also bought an indicator stalk for an R31, fits well so far, picked up a shroud from the wreckers with a cut loom to wire in, anyone with an R31 wiring diagram?

I'm hoping to have some colour on the car within the next couple of months, am lacking in motivation so we'll see how we go  . It's rather tempting to sell up and buy one already done or import one from japan, but then I suppose I can't say I rebuilt it then! So not an option. Will try and get back sooner with updates.
