So with the W53 head and the flat-top pistons, that will give you 10.5:1 compression? I've been told that's about the highest compression you'd want on a street motor. As it happens I'll be using that same combination in my L20B, by the looks of things

Fair enough... :giggle:
HAhahaha.

Yeah.. i should have said 11.somthing:1 with W53(40-1cc) and flats.

im just running a thicker head gasket (2mm instead of 1.25mm) to get it down to 10.5:1 roughly.. thats taking into account the shaved head and skimmed deck etc. :?

98 octane all the way for my motor... :)

Give the head a good port, maybe slightly bigger valves too. But if it will be your daily driver, you don't want it sucking up too much petrol! Fuel may be cheap now, but in six months....

So any progress with this?

I just went through the whole thing and realised you have no pics of the inside of the car yet, and only a few of the outside, whats it currently look like?

ok so,

i bought an L18W bored out to an 1835cc with a ported x-rally head and 68deg cam.

i have stripped it, cleaned it and rebuilt it, now i just have to finish reconing the head and bolt it on and time the cam. it will have an lighten flywheel, extractors + full exhaust (meaning hotdog and 2in piping) elec dizzy etc and to start with (and to get it passed for rego) a 32/36 weber.

the car was rego'd in qld with an L18 so i figured instead of forking out $$$ just yet for engineering the L21 i will just slap up an L18 to get it on the road asap.

I have an R30 5 speed being rebuilt at the moment for it. once thats here and i get the head on the block and ready to go, i will be bolting it up and getting it running.

Interior is nuthing special, Just new black carpet, new black bucket seats, white roof lining (dirty as), stock back seat and stock door trims, some 2 1/4 inch gauges, a woodgrain steering wheel, it will get a radio/sound system some day. main focus is getting it on the road... its still a while away i guess.. need a job cos money is a biatch.

anyway some random old pics to keep stoney happy :P

Hurry up and get it registered, schmuck!

My Datsun (well, the main one) may not be particularly drivable, but at least it's registered!

Its not a Datsun Gearnob, its got woodgrain on top and a stiched black leather around it for grip.

hahaha. its true, the commonwhore has been a slut latley...

Score on my P's.. 99/100 in manual ofcorse.

Absolutely Smashed em' in, funny story tho, the tester was a Datsun 1600 fanatic. Rekons that the 1600's are his dream car, and he was trying to buy one. So i started running my mouth, bragging bout wat im doing to mine etc. haha. the when i got back to the RTA, i looked at the test paper and he had stopped filling it out in all the datsun talk. i laughed, and he was like, sh*t better go fill this out. Only lost 1 point for not looking hard enough, because a dude stepped out from behind a car.

Going for my truck license in about 6 months :D Just my Medium Ridgid (MR in NSW) cos my old mans a truckie, so i can drive our own truck around and get the hours up.

Still trying to get funds up for the L18 re-build..

Cheers,

It's always fun doing that wil no job. How badly do you need a daily? Sell the VR and get this thing on the road!

Also do the seats need to be engineered for you to be able to get it passed roadworthy?

Nah, i can't sell the VR for funds, or i would have, believe me.

Thing is i don't want this to be my daily.. i wanna get another 1600 for the daily.

For the sake of how bored i am today, i took some photos of sh*t i've collected in the last week..;

Stoked with the new freshly chromed water pump pulley i got off eBay the other day.. only $5.50.. :D So i fitted it up with some new bolts n sh*t. Now to pull it apart and wait till it has to be bolted onto the motor first..  8)

Cheers,
