Hi guys,

I'm just starting to look over this 1600 rolling shell I picked up. It's an ex rally car with cams cage & logbook that I bought with the view to turn it into an Improved Production circuit racer

It looks like its had a very hard life, there's numerous areas that need a lot of work, but the area standing out most to me is the chassis rails in the engine bay. I can see the drivers side is slightly creased near the cross member and radius rod. Also the bloody cross member has been welded on at the driver's side too.

Specifically, can anyone tell me if the rails from the fire wall to the radiator support panel are meant to be dead straight when looking at the inside of the bay?

These ones seem to start off fairly straight then curve out slightly before the cross member area then go fairly straight to the rad support but each side is a bit different. I'm not sure if this is meant to be this way or not.

The front end is all out of whack with the drivers wheel 20mm more rearward than the passenger side. Given that it's all seam welded its going to be a bit if a job to pull back, but I imagine pretty doable with persistance and a porta power.

Cheers,
Sam

Hi Stowers,

Cheers mate, good pics. Those help a lot actually.

I've been thinking about putting this on a rotiserie too.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry for the delayed posting, however I was looking to find and post my Datsun 510 underbody alignment specifications.....these will help you to get that shell aligned back to factory (or at least determine how far things have moved in your car). In any case, it's worth doing the work to keep another shell in service and in it's new life as a race car.

All the best with it.....let us all know how it goes.

Thanks so much for those dimensions, that's absolutely brilliant!
