Gday fellas i was wondering if anyone has any experience running no bumpers on there 1600 in nsw without getting defected ..... this quote was the most relevant part i could find in the guidelines for light vehicle modifications from the rta. "No alteration may cause a reduction in the level of safety or overall strength of the vehicle."
Is it something that would need to be engineered? Cheers for any info

Doubt that you are legally going to get away with it.

Spoke to someone today - Not legal because of pedestrian protection.

Had a mate who just got caught in a fender bender, had the bumper in the back seat and got pulled over. Cop asked why there was no bumper because it's a danger to pedestrians, luckily he understood as he was driving it home to get it fixed.

Plus it would intrude with crash protection, no different to removing the side intrusion bars (for 1985~ vehicles onward).

You would still have to use a number plate light mounted somewhere

You can buy bolts that have little LED's in the end that shine down on the plate, they use them on motorbikes. But still, I don't see how removing a bumper could be made legal unless you replace it with something else to take the impact.

I don't have pictures but my previous Datsun had 75 mm x 44 mm steel home made bumper bars with over riders and although I got pulled over a lot I never got questioned about them. That was N.S.W. too. This is what my next Datto will be warring .

do you think it would be ok to remove the plastic from my bumper and leave just the metal part of the bumper
it will loose the end corner as the bar only goes to the join
