Hi All

My interior seats are coloured in cream, however the harness guides on the back of the seat are black plastic. Is there a 100% effective way of painting these plastic guides without the paint rubbing off? I have paint matched to the seat colour. I'm concerned that the harnesses rubbing across these plastic guides will rub the paint away.

The stupid thing about these Sparco seats is that you have to break the harness guides to get them apart (sparco have confirmed this). So if i paint them, and the harnesses do rub the paint away, just go get another set and don't paint right? Sparco don't make these harness guides anymore. I'm getting the last set. Sorry for the shite pic, it's all i've got.

Any tips or tricks appreciated :cheers

Tried putting a garbage bag over the whole seat and cutting a hole where the plastic mount is and ten neatly masking it all up so only the area to be painted is exposed?
Just make sure you use good quality masking tape so nothing bleeds onto your leather.
I'm def no expert but that's how I would do it.

I dont think you will have much success painting the guides. Even if you use one of the better plastic adhesion primers , eventually you will see where the harness has been rubbing the paint away. Personally id leave them black they look fine imo.

Paint does not wear well.
While they off and new could you scan them and make another set using a 3d printer and the correct coloured plastic?...

Clear coating will make it last slightly longer but will still eventually rub through.

Both the above are options , 3d printing would be ideal but no idea what the cost would be and if it is really worth it. Getting them trimmed should work to, as the are not retractable they should last a long time before it wears through the upholstery..

Leave them black? I reckon it doesn't look too bad!

Paint won't stay on for about the time your bum rubs across them. Use Dye. There is automotive Dyes for plastics available.

The other option is to get leather coloured to the correct colour and get your trimmer to set them up with a cover of leather. It should wear OK as long as you keep the leather treatment up to it?
