WOW this topic died in the arse!!

I am a long way off being at a stage where lighting is a priority but, I have been looking into the idea of swapping out the incandescent bulbs for LEDs on boards.

Aaron Cake has done this with his RX5 build and, I think the dude is on to something... aside from blinding people with the reverse lights.

The last post, before mine, on this topic was done in 2007... Anyone done anything with this idea since then??

Hatchman has some in his build thread but there's not much info on what he done.
You could obviously just change to led bulbs or did you want to build a custom panel of LEDs behind the lenses.

Yeah, I did look at the bulb replacement option but, Being that it is early in the build for mine, I am look at all options. The board option would be nice as it would be my own doing. My own design etc. Not that there is a great deal of individuality about brake lights or indicators :D

Look at what has been done I guess... Simple answer, "not much".

I'll likely get someone to do the circuitry for me as I have ZERO experience in that area but as far as the light boards themselves... I'll have a crack at it!

I saw a guy on Ratsun or one of the US Datto forums who did it. Looked really good. I have always thought about it. Never actually been bothered to get into it yet.

Sorry missed this one.

We just put a panel of LED's behind the lenses. My father did it as he's pretty good with this kind of thing.

Can get more details if people would like...

Would very much like. This sounds like the kind of deal i was thinking. Replace the whole rear casing and basically make the LED backing plate...

Tell me more, Tell me more.

Okay just spoke to Dad.

He bought the LED panels from Bursons. They come in a pack of two and they are the kind of ones that can be found on the back of caravans, trailers etc....

He pulled apart the tailight lenses and took them into Bursons to find the size that would fit the closest. He said there is one size that is really close and all he had to do was file down the edges of the LED panel to get it to sit inside the tailight. Once he got the fit right it was just a matter of super-gluing them in and putting the tailight back together

Nah sorry mate, they're all tucked nicely in the car now!

But if you take down the lenses you'll find the part pretty easy, they have quite a few types.

As they should be.

I'll get to that. At least I know where I can go :D And they're great to deal with too.

Thanks heaps!
