This picture shows the R160, R180 and R200 diffs sitting next to each other, the R160 on the left, R180 in the middle, R200 on the right. Hopefully this should help anyone trying to identify which diff they have. Big thanks to turbovan for the pic.

is there any numbers or letters to tell from the outside what is what.
from the photos, the rear of mine looks like a R180, are all R180's limited slip.

and will the axle splines from a R160 fit the R180

Came out in open and LSD - limos are rarer and fetch good dollars.

Depends on the model - the Z31 has the R200, the Z32 has the R230. The Z31 R200 comes in both LSD and open, I have heard people say that the turbos all had LSD diffs, but I have pulled an open diff out of a turbo Z31.

It's illegal for a start, and will wear out your rear tyres alot quicker. You will know about it when you go around a roundabout in the wet and get sideways as your tyres have already lost traction from just turning the corner.
But it's fun :P

There are no numbers. Measure the distance between the bottom two cover bolts.
