hi guys,

Getting a slow weep from my passenger-side output shaft area on my diff (R180), can only assume it's the side seal.

Just trying to do some reading up on whether it's something I can do on the ground with the diff in the car, or if I should just take it somewhere and avoid cursing life while I'm lying under the car. Has anyone changed these before, any hints/tips? These are some links I've found...

(scroll down past half-way, until you reach the heading "Replacing the side seals"

Note that these are both done out of the car, with the diff on a bench. I have changed my transmission output shaft seal a few times, so I'm guessing it'll be a similar deal?

As far as parts go, I can't find any genuine Nissan seals, only the "Beck/Arnley 052-1401". Ebay link.

cheers!

I changed them on my R180 and R200. Just like a regular crank/cam seal though with the shafts out you can lever them quite easily with a screwdriver or ideally a seal remover tool. Installation is normal too - either hammer with an even block matching diameter pipe or slowly with a punch.

I can't remember if the seals I used had the flare on them last time. Usually if you don't buy the Nissan ones a regular seal shop will have the right one without the extra flare to reduce dust. If it's strictly a tar car I think you could get away with it.
